    Coolant.

Can anyone tell me when the coolant gets changed?
Had a low coolant warning the other day and due to the closeness of its next service I just topped it up with water,, yes yes I know , dont yell....
The important bit is it took 2 litres to fill..

The recommended fluid is castrol Radicool SF O
    but guess what?
(apart from there being none outside a LR dealer--)
    its been discontinued...

The Tech guy at Castrol recommended Radicool SF
    but thats glycol based?

Coolant change should be mentioned on the maint schedule. I had difficulty securing coolant not long after I first got my car.... it went in for a service and a few days later showed coolant low. I suspect they did not quite fill it enough at the service as I could not see any signs of leakage. I thought it would be a good idea to get some spare. The original caltex coolant mentioned in the owners manual was of course no longer in production, so I went for a hunt for the replacement.
Not sure if the SDV6 coolant is the same as the SDV8 , but after researching, this is what I managed to obtain from the caltex distributor , as no caltex outlet actually stocked it. I was expecting to have to pay a lot, but lucky for me the distributor actually sent a few bottles free of charge, not sure why.... just had to collect them from the courier depot.:

Two litres is quite a lot,i would be keeping an eye on the level.

My Brother was saying the Castrol coolant he has been using in his D1 for the last 20 plus years is no longer available either.

    .
Yes, hence the question about the schedule, if its the original coolant then its probably ok... but if it was done by the previous owner----

    Nulon ONE

Nulon say they have a coolant that suits every car on Australian and New Zeland roads.

Might take the guesswork out of selecting coolants.

    So..
(remembering we are "planning" the SW corner of WA for summer, so will have to park-up somewhere soon...)

has the two litres of water lowered the coolant "mixture" enough to be a concern? Do Castrol still make those coolant test strips?
Is there a coolant drain tap in the system? am hesitant to put glycol in an oat system colour be damned.

its not leaving great pools of coolant anywhere...

is the oil cooler water cooled? remember I had the oil cooler gasket replaced recently...

any and all comments kindly received as always...

Penrite Blue OEM will work for you (full drain required)

If you want a top up fluid Penrite Universal Top Up Premix.

You want a G30 type coolant

A tech at Pacific LR said two litres of water is fine.

I'd like to drain it all out but how and where is the issue.

Does the compacted graphite iron block extend to the heads? and do they rust?
