    3.0L and TDV6 Engines

    Gday All,
This is well away from my usual haunts on the forum but am looking at what to replace the D3 with. Personally i didnt think i would look at another LR but the better half likes them and after spending as many years with me as she has , she well and truely deserves a fair say and a look.
So my question is are these engines a continuation of the D4 engines... i dont seem to read any horror stories in this section of the forum so im hoping they are an improved version.

Looking at a daily driver with the ability to tow our 23 ft van which to its credit the standard D3 did very well i thought.

    Cheers Bulletman

I don't know but I certainly hope so. I'm not sure I've heard of the same problems in the RRS either ,,,, that might be wishful thinking. :-)

Just be aware, the L494 does not come standard with a tow bar, or so I was informed by the salesman. I'll have a poke around when I pick up the car on Frday but it has a clean fairing on the bum, so certainly doesn't look like it has one.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

It was my understanding since the D1 days that every LR was sold with a suitable towbar fitted.. goose neck up to you.

Yes Bulletman, the 3L SDV6 is the improved TDV6. Makes around 700nm so its a fair jump on a D3 , but its the 8speed that makes all the difference..3.0L and TDV6 Engines

No, at least not the later L494 which requires a different rear skirt or a large opening cut in the existing skirt if fitting a HR tow-bar.

Yep, L494 does not come standard with a towbar.

    SDV6 is twin turbo 225kW 700nm .
    TDV6 is single turbo 183kW 600nm.

Note that they stuck a 4 pot in them for a short period too.

TDV6 was available in the S and SE models. If you are planning to tow make sure the model you are looking at has a dual range transfer case and the towbar. HSE spec models and above all come standard with a dual range transfer case.

MY2016 was the last year without AdBlue so, if you don't want that complication then avoid the later MY's.
    Cheers,

    Sean

You lose 15? litres of diesel with adblue from 2017 on, also they finally upgrade the media stuff to include android auto in 2017, also different grill etc etc.
I wanted the range so went 16.5.. and added android later..

    What does that mean Pedro?

They reduced the diesel tank size by 15L? Adblue affects the fuel economy by 15L/Tank?

Tank size is reduced to make room for the Adblue tank.
