Actually, it's very low tech.
Pics 1 and 2 merely show opening and/or removing the spare wheel floor.
Pic 3 shows unscrewing the wheel hold down bolt.
There are two webbing straps that lay under the wheel and are attached to the body at the front. At the rear, they attach to a handle that slips into a slot in the lower tailgate while it is still vertical (pic 4)

When you lower the tailgate (pic 5), it pulls the straps taut and lifts the wheel up where it can be slid out of the car. Pic no.6 is shows the plastic tool that slips over the tailgate latch at the body and at the tailgate to hold the tailgate open (otherwise the weight of the wheel would close the tailgate).
