    Actually, it's very low tech.

Pics 1 and 2 merely show opening and/or removing the spare wheel floor.

Pic 3 shows unscrewing the wheel hold down bolt.

There are two webbing straps that lay under the wheel and are attached to the body at the front. At the rear, they attach to a handle that slips into a slot in the lower tailgate while it is still vertical (pic 4)

    Attachment 182961

When you lower the tailgate (pic 5), it pulls the straps taut and lifts the wheel up where it can be slid out of the car. Pic no.6 is shows the plastic tool that slips over the tailgate latch at the body and at the tailgate to hold the tailgate open (otherwise the weight of the wheel would close the tailgate).

    Hi Kev,
I found one brand new on a spare parts site in UK, from memory.
Sorry I don't have the part number with me at the moment.

    Thanks Ron,

I'll scan a photo/illustration from the handbook tomorrow, of the $100K + car support offering from JLR for the L494 .... you'll see what I mean.

    Cheers mate.

    Thanks Greg.

Now I know that JLR decided not to supply one as standard, I'll definately look into buying one or finding an option.

    Appreciate it.

    Thanks mate.

Haven't tried it yet but I've put a small ratchet strap in the boot, that has plastic coated hooks. I think it will do the job ... and probably easier than the strap contraption. One end (hook) is flat and wide and fits perfectly into the top of the tailgate opening, where the JLR tool fits. So I think it will be fine.

    Cheers,

    Kev.
