    Wheel Changing Lift Assist Tool

    Hi All,

I've seen this illustrated in the Handbook, I'm assuming it is standard in Australia? I don't appear to have one and it would be a bugger to remove the wheel without it, especially with the equipment sitting in the same slot as the wheel (battery, etc.)

Bizarre that the previous owner would have chosen to remove it.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

It sounds similar to what was originally supplied with L322s but discontinued towards the end of the model run. Some owners have subsequently fitted the tool but I climb in backwards to lift the wheel up out of the well with both hands, resting the wheel on the tailgate. I don't know if this is possible with the L494.

Like this one from the L322? Lowering the tailgate lifts the wheel out.

I bought one separately, my car did not come with one. I do not think it was standard issue on my model year. The one for the L494 is a pully arrangement that you hang from the top of the rear window opening.

My 2017 L494 came with the pully arrangement, sales guy showed me and asked if I would like one. Obviously I said yes. It is a genuine LR item but I got it FOC when I bought the car new. I have used it when rotating tyres and helped the NRMA guy with it when I had the battery replaced. (L494 Battery is under the spare tyre) He had never seen one used before and was most impressed. It does hook on the top of the rear hatch opening. A backbreaker to lift that tyre out without one.

    Thanks Barry,

I agree 100% I had a play and it is a horses bum to get out with the battery (and I believe the compressor), and associated covers in that position (protrudinging into the wheel's concave area). Even if I were 4 inches taller and 10 years younger, it would still be a struggle. It's mind blowing that it isn't standard fit. Its kinda like supplying the car with a spare wheel and no jack.

I'll definately have to look into buying one or seeing if a small rachet strap would achieve the same outcome without damaging the car or wheel.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Did you buy from LR or is there an aftermarket (read cheaper) alternate?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

It's a bit different Ron. Yours looks pretty high tech to what I've seen in the handbook and on Google. The L494 appears to be nothing more than a strap set up ... not sure how it lifts the wheel.

    Thanks Graeme,

There is bugger all room in the back of a L494 ... I had to drop the back seats to try that (my back facing the front of the car). The seats don't fold completely flat and headroom is limited. There is no tailgate to assist, which prevents trying it the other way round. And there is a huge lump of kit (Cover, Compressor, Battery) sitting in the wheel's concave section, thus stealing any manipulation space.

    :-(

    Hi Kev,
Only found one picture of it with this description. Couldn't link the picture but there is a part number at the end of the description.
