    Jack Options for L494

    Hi All,

I'm kinda new to the L494 with it's chassis-less design.

I've owned 2 D4s before and there were lots of ideas around the best places to jack the car up and the best devices to assist this activity, as most folks didn't trust the LR supplied jack. I ended up getting a Toyota screw jack and fitted a modified interface for the chassis rail. Using a trolly jack was also easy, as the chassis was very easy to locate, but less travel friendly .

I've never jacked the L494 before but do have a set of 18" Compomotives which I intend to use a few times a year for camping and beach work. Is the LR supplied jack trustworthy or should I be looking at other options? If so, what are they?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

I have a bottle jack, have never used the LR one. I suspect that the 18" wheels won't fit over the brakes.

and a couple of porkers for the speed thrills.

    Thanks mate,

Where do you put the head of the bottle jack, as the jacking point is a raised bar ... for want of a better description? The other thing I'd normally do is use a jack stand .... but there doesn't appear to be anywhere to put it. There is a metal plate, inboard of the jacking point but don't know if it's rated for either a jack or stand.

The Compomotives fit over the brake calipers with no issue, as I don't have Brembo brakes. The lower control arm does come very close to the inner wheel but I suspect that distance never changes. I know a guy that is a crazy 4WD'er with the same car and same Compo wheels and he's never complained of getting debris stuck in the gap, so I suspect it's probably too tight for anything of significance to get into.

I do get slight tyre rub (265/65/18 Kenda Klever) when turning at normal height, at reasonable speed, around a pretty tight roundabout. I'll have to watch that, as the RRS has a lot of sound proofing in the wheel well that I don't want to damage, unlike the Disco 4.

    Cheers,

    Kev.
