    Rust on Bash Plates

    Hi All,

I must say I'm pretty disappointed. My car had literally been off road once and having owned two D4 before the RRS, I'm very familiar with the post-beach cleaning regime.

I was changing a wheel and noticed rust on a bash plate near the rear of the car. Not sure why it's steel Vs aluminum but it is. There is one on each side of the car, appears to be protecting the fuel tank or something. The plate has a drain hole of sorts, so not sure why anything would remain in there, that would cause rust.

I'll clean it all up and coat it with a protector but was wondering if anybody else has experienced this?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

You might want to check the points where the rear sub-frame bolts to the body, as in the UK rust/galvanic corrosion can be a real problem with the L494 & L405.

    Thanks Graeme,

I assume if I google that up I'll be able to work out where that area of concern is, and hopefully what to do about it?

There are so many things to unpack in this ... a car that's largely aluminum alloy has more issues that my steel chassis D4s? Astounding!

Also, in a country that regularly puts rock salt grit on the roads, to have substandard corrosion protection is nuts .....

Conversely, for a car that was literally the boss's wife's shopping trolley for the 3 years before I bought it, it's disgusting that it's showing issues after one beach trip!

The area on the body where the bolts go through the subframe to the body, but hopefully not in our dryer and warmer climate and where we don't salt the roads.
