    Evoque Transmission Warning

Our 2012 TD4 evoque has been showing transmission warnings on startup recently, the car has 113,000kms.

The gearbox has been working fine, no issues. Took it into a mechanic to run codes and said it was sending a code but nothing seemed to be wrong, he cleared the codes. Immediately after the transmission warning re appeared.

I checked battery and it was about to die, so I replaced it and still the code is showing after replacement. Feedback from the land rover specialist mechanic is that these are good gearboxes and don’t have many issues, I have read online about a few of these gearboxes failing though.

My question is, is this an issue we should be spending money on investigating further, or just one of those electronic issues some cars have? I had a 2002 Discovery 2 for 380,000kms which was the best car I’ve owned, which for the life of it would send an SRS warning signal, yet the srs system was fine and checked out..it just liked to send srs fault codes and we couldn’t do anything to stop it. Is this something similar?

Any idea of what code the gearbox is throwing? A low battery will throw up a gearbox fault. It did in our Freelander 2, it was the first warning that the battery was just about dead.

And at that mileage a tranny oil change wouldn't hurt.

Dont have the code unfortunately, replaced battery with new after and still throws code.

Ill call the mechanical who serviced it regularly (we bought the car second hand) and see if they can see when the tranny oil/filter was last replaced. Is this a common reason for codes being thrown?

change the battery and then clear the code, not the other way around.

Yes agree this is the best process, however the code is now coming up more and more than before so would need to see if another clear will actually fix it. Seems like the problem isnt the battery. Any other ideas or feedback?

+1 For oil change probably has never been changed if has had LR servicing, also in our FL2 needed to change it 3 times before coming out a decent colour now change it more regularly.

Thankyou for the replies. 100% at the next service i will be getting oil change + filter for the tranny regardless of the warning signals.

So I took to back to a shop to get the code re-read now I have installed a brand new battery given the current one was 7 years old. The fault code was P1794-92 which is the battery voltage circuit. They checked the gearbox control module and was OK. He said he also checked the battery and was OK.

As soon as I jumped in the car, warning signal came back on. The guy said they would need to investigate further as it may just be a loose wire somewhere, not willing to spend money on this if it isnt an issue and just one of the 'warning' signals that always come on as trying to find the source of electrical issues are never ending. Are there any common known wiring issues that cause this warning signal to come on? Its more annoying than anything at this stage.

Does your Evoque have the "start/stop" feature??

If so you will have a small Auxiliary battery as well as your main battery. I'm thinking if your main battery was 7 years old your aux battery would be that old as well and probably needs replaced.

I was looking at the wiring diagram (although be it a 2013 diagram) and there is connections between the auxiliary battery module and the gearbox module. I't might be worth looking into.

Car is non start stop model.

I may have missed this but the actual fault comes up as "Gearbox Fault, Select park before engine stop".

Just having another look at the wiring diagrams and a bit of the google, looks like you still have the auxiliary battery and it's not just on the stop start models.

I'd be betting the that's your problem, and guess what fault it throws! "Gearbox Fault, Select park before engine stop"
