    Replacing halogen housing with xenon housing

    Hi all,

    Great to be joining this forum.

    I recently purchased a LR Disco Sport without the Xenon pack and I'm not that keen on the look of that but since I purchased used and got a decent deal, I have to compromised.

    However, looking eBay, I can see the possibility of sourcing OEM Xenon housing left and right from US for roughly 1k+.

    Doing more Googling, I can see it's plug-able to existing cable and stuff but it required re-coding to enable things to work correctly.

    I'm just wondering whether anyone knows any garage in Melbourne that has done this kind of job before?

    Well after further checking

    a. The coding is required
    b. Replacing this housing probably will void the warranty - not sure if worth it
    c. I don't think non-xenon model has the legal headlight washer installed
    d. I don't think self-levelling exists in non-xenon model

    So I'll probably go with finding some better looking halogen light to replace the stock one for now...

    Keen to hear from others that are on the same road.

    Typically you can't source from a LHD market as the bean pattern is wrong (illegal). US is a no go. UK is usually a safe bet and their cert works here.
    If you fit 25W Xenon globes you don't need the headlight washers legally (the lumen outputs drops below threshold).

    That's very informative, thanks for that. I guess it's just about finding who/how to do the coding I guess.

    Send Cam from this thread a PM (Retrofitting missing factory options to new-ish LR's; FL2, Evoque, D3/D4, RRS, etc...)

    He should be able to see if it can be done and does have contacts in a few states.

    Got this done today.

    Genuine Bi-Xenon RHD headlights replacing the Halogen ones. No wiring changes, just put them in and edited the CCF.





    Forgot to get a pic of the Halogen ones fitted for comparison though....

    DRL + Xenon + Indicator + High beam all working as expected.

    Having said that I feel like for some reasons the left light is either stronger or higher than the right light.

    I've double checked and they are definitely UK - right hand drive model.

    Will have another look tomorrow.

    It's normal that the Xenon beam kicks up to the left a bit, to light up the side of the road, and not be bright in the eyes of oncoming traffic, which is off to the right.
    In saying that it could be that the aim of the lights needs a little adjustment to get them both at the same height.
    There are allen key adjusters in the top of the headlights which you turn to move the base point of the beam aim up & down.

    Yeah I saw those 2 adjustors screw on top of the headlight - my allen keys are with someone else today so can't adjust it just yet

    To be honest, until this evening, I wasn't sure this could even be possible as I've been searching on a lot of DS forum not just AU but other countries and there is only that Drew Garage in US which seems to did this for the DS.

    So it's great to be one of the first ones that got this done - hopefully others in my position would be able to get help from you - and Nick from nolimitcsv is such a pleasure to do business with!

    I've been watching a few videos for other Discovery housing and they seem to have some kind of lever inside to switch between LHD and RHD mode.

    I forgot to inspect the DS Xenon housing myself before it got installed to check if this is the case with DS as well.

    I'm not sure how exactly the computer will deal if you put a US light in EU car model - but if the US light can be adjusted to RHD mode and work with EU car model - it would probably be cheaper to source the light from US rather than UK.

    As far as I can tell, this is the first time that the headlight retrofit has been done without any wiring modifications to get them working.

    The solution from Drew Garage was to modify the wiring inside the light, in this case we just changed the software settings in the vehicle to be the same as a car that was built with Xenons.

    I don't think using North American headlights is an option. While I have not looked inside the lights of the Disco Sport, the way that Bi-Xenons work on other vehicles is there's an actuated flap which cuts off the beam when the lights are in low-beam / dipped-beam mode, and that flap opens when you go to high beam. The edge of that flap is shaped to cut the beam off so the light is not dazzling to oncoming traffic, and it kicks the beam upward to one side only. LHD lights on a RHD car will have the beam lighting up the right side of the road, which is not good for people driving towards you.

    I did convert a pair of Bi-Xenon lights on a Jag from RHD to LHD a few years ago, by disassembling the internal parts and turning that flap around so the cut off was on the opposite side. Without seeing a Disco Sport light in bits it's hard to be sure if the same trick will work.

    Unless things have gotten drastically more complicated with the newer cars, I don't think the car knows or cares if it has RHD or LHD lights fitted, as the differences are mechanical, not electronic/software.

    But for the sake of other people on the road, you really need RHD lights.
