Fitting a dashmat to the DS

I selected the Heads Up Display (HUD) on my new DS SD4 HSE, which means that the vehicle is fitted with Solar Attenuating windscreen glass (or a special film on the original glass). The HUD works brilliantly, but the special glass amplifies reflections from the dashboard, to a point where they are very distracting (and potentially dangerous).

Does anyone have this problem with the standard glass?

To solve the problem with reflections, I fitted a dashmat to my wife's Suzy and it works marvellously.
I have now fitted a Shevron Dashmate with a homemade cutout for the HUD, and the improvement id very noticeable.

But can someone please explain what the shiny black projection in the middle of the dash is for, and what the grill around the black 'knob' does?

The shiny knob is the ambient light sensor so it knows when it's dark outside to switch the auto headlamps on and adjust the instrument illumination. The grille around it is for a centre speaker for the entertainment system. All models have the grille, but the SE with the standard 10 speaker system has no speaker in it. As your car is the HSE it has the 11 speaker system so will have a speaker in there. I have the same dashmat as you and asked Shevron about the need for a cutout for the speaker and they said it's not necessary as the mat is open weave and permeable to sound.

Thanks so much for the prompt reply. At least I am now confident that the amount of 'sensor' sticking through the dashmat hole will not detract from its intended purpose.
Did you fit the mat to protect theh dash or because of reflections?

For protection. I don't have problems with reflections, but then I don't have the solar attenuated windscreen. I wanted it, but was too impatient to wait for a new build and took a stock car without it. I know what you mean about the hole for the sensor, and I enlarged mine a bit with a pair of scissors so the dashmat would sit flat.

To follow up on this discussion, what I have established is that the solar attenuating film, which covers the entire windscreen, and not only the HUD region in front of the driver, amplifies any dashboard reflections to a point of being very distracting, and possibly dangerous.

The problem is exacerbated if the driver is tall or sets the sitting position at its highest - has to do with angles of reflection.

As a consequence the dashmat's 'silver flecks' reflected terribly and now I have sprayed it with a matt flat primer which has really helped.

But every bit of plastic that is not covered by the dashmat is still reflected.

At this point I do not know how to solve the problem so I guess I have to live with it.

    A real pity..
