Rotary Gear Selector Won't Rise - 2020 Discovery Sport

    Hi all,

Feels weird being in here after a decade in the Defender section seeking assistance and advice but here I am and we're all Landy owners...as is my missus who just bought herself a 2020 demo model Discovery Sport with only 50km on the clock. Gorgeous vehicle.

Twice now she's had an issue with the rotary gear selector not rising when she starts the car and nothing she seems to fiddle with can change it. Car parked on level ground. A number of errors are shown on the dash, such as:

    Forward alert not available
    Park brake fault
    Gearbox fault
    AEB not available
Stability control not available Drive with care
    ATPC not available

The first time this occurred, recycling the lock-unlock mechanism 3 times fixed this and she was able to take it to the dealer who did a software upgrade (2 weeks ago).

The second time this occurred (today), recycling the lock-unlock mechanism had to be done 10 times before it would work.

It's going back to the dealer (Artarmon grrrr) tomorrow with some stern words but we have a 4,000km road trip coming up including outback driving in 40 degrees so I'm curious to find the culprit here.
Has anyone heard of such behaviour before? I had a quick squiz through the threads but didn't find anything, apologies if I missed something helpful.

Much obliged for any wisdom, as always,
    Bobby

As you are mechanically minded, I would be insisting the dealer provides you with the parts and instructions to replace the rotary dial assembly should you have an issue on your trip. Agree to return the parts after six months if there's no problems.

    UPDATE:

The missus took the car up to Alto Artarmon, from whom she purchased the car 2 weeks ago, but they sent her home (North Sydney) saying there's someone coming to have a look at it (NRMA Roadside Assist). This seems a dumb move as it wastes everyone's time but it smells of kickbacks to me.
NRMA bloke was terribly nice but sadly unable to replicate the issue so a tow truck was called.
Tow truck guy, also delightful, experienced the same problem with the rotary selector and errors i.e. the problem occurred again, so he took the car back to Alto.

Upon arrival of the car for the third time in 2 weeks, Alto called my missus and she gave them an earful. I'd advised her to "Make sure they don't take the p* ss and that they understand how annoyed you are about this, darling", which she did and having been on the receiving end of one myself, wouldn't have been entirely pleasurable but the message would have been clear and fair.

A small dent was also found on the driver's door, right under the mirror (that's living in Sydney for you I suppose) and Alto said they'd have a look at getting it out while it's being worked on, which is good of them. I suspect nothing will happen at all because I've dealt with these guys before and the over-promise / under-deliver strategy seems to run through them thicker than blood but I'm happy to be wrong. They also provided her within 2 hours, with a replacement Discovery Sport which we were going to take camping this weekend but have decided against it on reliability basis, pending the outcome of the issue on her car. We'll go in Monty (my Defender) instead.

Once we find out the cause and fix, I'll post a further update.

    UPDATE:

Land Rover replaced the whole gear selector under warranty and provided a replacement Disco Sport while it was being done. No more error messages, no more issues. Will get a pre-warranty inspection done by the guys at Ayres and mention this as something they should check but for now we'll monitor.
