    Speed inaccurate

In my 2020 Disco Sport the KPH are very inaccurate.

The speed indicated 80KMP but the GPS (which I assume is deadly accurate) states the actual speed is 74KPH. So if I travel on the car's speed of 88KPH then I am actually going ay 80KPH.

Similarly the car shows 60 KPH but the actual speed is 55KPH.

Then when I get to 110KPH highway limit I am actually only going 100KPH and I need to sit on 120KPH for the correct speed.

I realise that in older style cars manufacturers allowed for a 'speedo error' and always underestimated the speed.

But new cars - with GPS capability - surely they can be more accurate!!!

I run stand tyres with only 10K on them.

Is there any way to get the speed recalibrated to reflect the actual speed?

That's normal, all cars have over read 5-6% . GPS isn't linked to the speedo.

It is pretty typical. I understand the ADR is the speedo can read 10% fast and 0% slow. My Disco2 has a calibrated speedo, my Disco1 reads 5km/h fast on the highway and my Audi's is pretty much spot on, I think that error in speedo's is why there are so many slow cars on the highway, where they think everyone else is speeding.

Our past 3 Subaru Foresters have indicated 108km/h at 100 GPS.

BTW, it's officially km/h not KPH

My former Impreza and both of my parents Outbacks speedos read similarly to your Foresters.

My now 12 months old work Triton is roughly 7% out at 100km/h, the Hilux it replaced was a little more accurate at reading 5% faster than actual road speed.
My old Defender was the worst car I've driven, that was a definite 8% out. Until I fitted 33.3" tyres which corrected it. Speed inaccurate

I just have to remember that when I jump in the Disco I keep to the indicated speed and don't do my usual 10% faster than the speed limit everywhere.
Like Slunnie's D2 I have a ratio converter between the speedo pickup and BCU and I have the speed set to read only 1% faster.

The speed indicated on a GPS is RARELY 100% accurate.

One of my brothers has a Paj sport, and it is around 7% out.

The Toyotas we have are all around 5% out maximum.

    Yours seems ridiculously incorrect.

Being too far out causes accidents, as I have explained on here before, particularly in rural areas, where trucks will sit on an actual of between 100 and105Km/hr,and someone is sitting on an actual of say,94Km/hr,thinking they are really doing 100Km/hr,as per the speedo readout.

The other problem out here, is that speedos which read 10km/h over, magically change and read 10km/h under when there is a passing lane. Crazy stuff, it's like the VW dieselgate cheat device for speedos.

    Exactly,WTF is that all about?

Often those passing lanes are on an uphill incline, and with the D2,it just didn't have the guts to get past these clowns, at times.I used to even sit back a bit,i so had a bit of a run up, still no good, sometimes.
The D4 was no worries, it left them well behind

I notice others trundling along in a 100Km/hr zone, going at 90,then 85,then up to 95,then through a 50Km/hr town, they still sit on 80.

    Bloody PITA.
