I got the dealer tow bar and it cost me AU$2,500 back in 2016.

At the time the Hayman Reese wasn't available so the genuine JLR one was the only choice.

The Hayman Reese is an excellent product, and quite a bit cheaper than the JLR offering (which incidentally is made for them by a company in New Zealand), and as the wiring loom for the tow bar is already installed up to the spare wheel well, all you need is just an extension from there to the tow socket.

However, I think the JLR one is a better fit and less obtrusive, and everything you need is included in the price - fold up twelve pin electrics, hitch, locking hitch pin, flat to round electrical adapter, and all stored in a nice LR branded case. Also, when a trailer is attached the DS detects it being there through the indicator circuits and activates towing mode. This changes the gear mapping for towing, activates trailer assist to automatically control trailer sway through the ABS system, turns off the rear fog lights, and last but not least de-activates the reversing sensor. Because of this I feel more comfortable with the genuine electrical harness and it having been fitted by a dealer. Not saying after market tow bars can't do this, but just that if there's any problems down the line if the dealer fitted it - he can damn well fix it!

Whether that's worth the difference in price to you or not is your call, but personally if doing it again I'd still probably go with the LR offering, but that's just me.
