Have a look at the GOE web site and you will see an off road test of the Velar carried out by Gordon in November on a steel sprung version. He was quite impressed but as with the DS and Evoque ground clearance is the problem. With the air suspension option it would better, with more ground clearance at off road height.

I recall the original Rav4 being derived somehow from the Corolla platform, and i was told the Grand Vitara is derived from the Swift! The Jeep Cherokee or is it the Renegade is derived from a Fiat hatchback! So, i reckon the Honda CRV was based off a Honda Accord.

So, i hazard the following sequence of derivation......

Honda Accord -> Honda CRV -> LR Freelander 1 -> LR Freelander 2 -> Evoque -> Disco Sport

Funnily enough, my first car was a 1978 Honda Accord. I couldnt afford a Range Rover, but little did i know that i had nevertheless purchased one of its forebears, one of its grandfathers as such. Who would have thought? Who would have been more than flabbergasted, unimpressed, and disbelieving in the extreme at such a thought?!?

I cant help but see this comment as typical of the rot that is setting it. I took my Amarok through the high country recently and while it did it without incident, it really would have been better to have low range. I might retrofit. But, at least i had big tyres, heaps of flex, a rear diff lock, significant and enough ground clearance, solid front bashplate, etc, none of which the velar has.

The velar is just an audi quattro with a squidge more ground clearance, or pretty much a ford territory. Do you go around saying, well, the ford territory is actually not bad offroad.........

Look at all the attributes of the 2 door RRC. The velar has so very, very few of them.

The Velar is actually a Jaguar F Pace - and is not designed for hard core offroad use - is designed to get you to your Swiss Alps chalet in the middle of winter on iced up main roads - like most of the European softroaders.

LR is just providing customers with options - if you want a proper offroader at the moment then you buy a D5, a RRS or a RR. If you dont want that but need to go to places like your chalet then you buy a Velar, Evoque etc

    Too easy.

They show it because it can do it.

    Why do you care?

You Amarok is far from stock, and is designed as a utility vehicle. Why are you comparing it to a velar?

I saw a video of a Kia Sorrento doing hells gate in Moab. I wouldn't have thought it was able. But apparently it was, crunching of the rear bumper aside.

Velar is great Offroad. Remember what the actual market is for them.

    Very capable.

If LR only built what is enthusiasts wanted they would of disappeared by now.

Velar Evoke and Disco Sports are best sellers now
