    Wood smoke is fairly toxic, but not nearly as bad as tobacco smoke. And, as you say it is not deliberately breathed in deeply.

    Looks like short term wood smoke, which it almost always is camping, has nil long term health effects.

    However short term passive smoking looks to have immediate harmful effects on the cardiovascular system that can increase the risk of heart attack. People who already have heart disease or asthma are at especially high risk.
