It was tongue in cheek mate, it was never going to happen.
Judging from some of the posts on here I fully understand why Land Rover would feel the way they do .

I've said I think the current line up all look the same and that I don't like any of them as they stand, beyond that back up your comments with some facts please.
Ahh, looking at my post again I can see how you would think that was directed at you however you replied on the subject and my comments we're not directed at you rather the original comment maker, notice the language I use "someone" and "people" and in fact it was directed to anyone the post fits. Notice I did not use the words "you", Generally have no problem with how you post.

Looking at some of the latest Nurburgring shots, you can clearly see the roof line drop at the front like the current defender.

Can also see bonnet real line under padding in one of the shots and testing rollcage

Also what seems to be a rear seat panoramic roof(could go back further than what is shown)

This is different to all other pilots spotted, i think this was removed on purpose. (Slow reveal)

New defender article can be found here:

Car News | Australia's Latest Motoring News | CarAdvice

    Main takeaways

"The new model will represent 70 years of innovation and improvement in just one model year; honouring the model’s history for rugged durability, while thoroughly remaining a Defender for the 21st century," the company said in January.

    Australia
JLR's local arm has confirmed Australian deliveries of the new Defender will commence in 2020 following its global debut later this year.

“The new model will represent 70 years of innovation and improvement in just one model year” ...if that’s not marketing spin based on impossibility, I don’t know what is.

How about this: New 2020 Defender it’s everything to everyone, so awesome it will displace every vehicle design in the history of the universe and be the only vehicle on the worlds roads by 2025! ...Woot!

We are not that far off 2000 pages. A bit more free advertising for Land Rover, some shots across Toyota's bow, a few squabbles about what constitutes country dealerships and bush support and we are there!

    Cheers

Maybe it could be if viewed in a pessimistic light. Cmon Zero try a little glass half full

Every company uses marketing, marketing spin however is an interesting choice of words.

"Marketing Spin is the selective assembly of fact and the shaping of nuance to support a particular view of a story."

From what i have seen with LRs marketing, very little is non fact based and I respect them for than compared to other brands.

In this case its also pretty accurate, landrover/defender is something that changed very little over 70 years.

With this statement, they are saying what has already been said on this thread, look at the 60 series and the 200 series, slow incremental changes over approx 40 years nobody bats an eyelid. Now imagine if you went from a neat 2015 60 series to a 200series in 2019, mate world war 3 would have started in Australia.

What you classify as "spin" is infact a very smart statement and factual and intended to get people thinking.

They are getting everyone, especially the die hards, ready for the shock that will come when a Landrover that has not had significant improvement or innovation (when compared to other brands) in 70 years, has the equivalent of 70 years (compared to most other brands) normal innovation and improvement in just 1 model year.

Not "Spin" or "propaganda trying to twist the truth"..just truth and fact.

Haha, maybe, Now thats a good example of spin, you might have been hiding a hidden talent from us all there Zero

Well actually JLR say the opposite, they admit that if people are expecting a carbon copy of the original, they prob won't like it.

McGovern said...“I do think it needs to acknowledge the great heritage of Defender in terms of its capabilities, durability and is robustness but not necessarily in terms of its visual quality,” he said.

“I think you have to be careful. I don’t think we should be doing a pastiche of what we have been doing before. What we have to do with the new Defender… it will be quite polarising to the Discovery and Range Rover.

“If [the loyalists] are expecting a facsimile of the old one with all this new technology then I don’t think they’ll be pleased.”

    They also claim the following:

Speaking from the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover's chief marketing officer Felix Bräutigam said: "The new Defender will not simply be a copy-cat, something retro. It will be something that moves the game on for Land Rover."

No crazy claims, no spin, again just realistic fact.
