I can see that. I went to landrover first, and nothing tickled my fancy there either (that was reasonably priced), so for $67k on road, i get a brand new, 300kw petrol v8, with all the bells and whistles, and heaps of room, and nissans reliability, i couldn't pass it up. For $40k more i could have got a d5, thats a lot of fuel. We are heppy with our decision.
BUT as i said, a PETROL v8 defender, at a reasonable price, could bring us (me, not the wife though) back over.

My reason for a v8 petrol, is simplicity. And a flat torque curve. Sound. Power. Less bits and pieces bolted to the engine for emissions and to make power.

I think the entry 4 cycl Injenium motor with 180kw and 500Nm will appeal to most people here, especially if the 110 version is way under 2 tonne. That will give it twice as much get up and go compared to the last Defender.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow
Perentie 110 wagon ARN 49-107 (probably selling) turbo, p/steer, RFSV front axle/trutrack, HF, gullwing windows, double jerrys etc.

The V8 petrols used by JLR today dont look too simple, and realistically are the only option. The sticker price would be a shocker, extr.a weight over the axle? Not convinced for this segment, IMHO.

Now a straight 6 ingenium would be interesting.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
    apologies to Socrates

    Clancy MY15 110 Defender

That's what my bog stock TD5 Disco consistently gets.
