Huge interest in a vehicle does not relate to sales . I'm excited & super interested in the new Suzuki Jimny. I love to own one but probably wont buy one . I'm also hugely interested in the LR 2020 & definitely wont be buying one.
I would like to have an open and honest conversation with LR. (Yes, I realise that will never happen).
Some of my questions would be:
What is your target audience? (Hilux, Ranger or the Merc X Class, VW Amarok) ?
What is your minimum/maximum price range?
Who is your target audience?
No marketing hype or spin - just an honest conversation.
Answers to the above would end most of the speculation and people would be able to work out if the Defender suits their needs.
At the moment there is still too much marketing spin, and not enough facts. IMO

100% agree Jimny is weekend play car and a good one!
New defender is doing a pretty darn good job at just about every scenario its been thrown at from what ive seen. People that have seen it offroad in the flesh agree. Most of previous defenders where not used for work, although they could be used, I cant see anything changing in the new Defender, Looking forward to seeing some vision out of tusk (real working scenarios)![]()
You mention best in class BR
What class do you think it will fit??
So we know it’s a wagon, with maybe 6 seats
2 definite maybe 3 baby seats possible
So it’s not a family wagon
It will have small tanks and compared with a 200 short wheelbase so despite statistics it won’t sell well as a tug
It won’t have copious rear space so it won’t make the ultimate touring wagon
And at this stage it won’t have a tray/tub so it won’t touch the raging DC market
Despite the LR sticker shock poor dealer network and general low sales
The reality is that it will be an excellent off road version of a fortuner?
I don’t think even Toyota would care if it stole 10% of that market share!!
I think they have plonked it in no-mans land
Maybe in other markets it will be a success but I just can’t see too many Aussie family’s stumping up 100 gorillas for an air spring gizmo ridden fortuner?
