Our multivan auto has this setup. What is annoying for me is that it is configured for LHD. So gear indicators are on the left of the gear stick. So you can’t easily see what gear you have selected. Also you tend to pull it to the right and accidentally into manual mode when selecting drive. Given U.S. and Euorope is defender,s target market how well it be configured for RHD?

When we camp our double blow up mattress actually has a higher section where our head goes.

I agree though completely flat is better some people I know even sleep without pillows for this reason.

Does anyone actually have any real world experience of sleeping in the back of a Discovery 5?

Maybe with certain versions of the defender being slightly more utilitarian if they use similar seats with less padding maybe they will fold 100% flat.
Are you suggesting that I’m heavy? Lol

LR still has pretty strong connections to Britain and it's owned by an Indian company. I think the RHD configuration is probably going to be just fine.

Well it is as i have stated, it slopes from the rear to the front. Lee Jackson has slept in his D5 and when i was at his house looking at storage/drawer options you would have to make wedges so that any drawer system will sit level.

And the company HQ and design team are in the UK. I would be very surprised if it were not designed to be equally at home both LHD and RHD.

So just to confirm it starts sloping when the seats start?

Can we get some feedback from Lee?

What, you remember the old valiant, with the push buttons for the auto on the dash?

Hmm,maybe they could modernise it so it’s a touch pad

No need for an actual gear lever at all......

    And the guessing continues

Actually some manual vehicles can’t be push started, don’t ask me why,cos I don’t know.

A mate has an Amarok, manual, and it can’t be push started.

Nothing wrong with an 8 speed tried and tested ZF,auto, which I bet the new Defender will have.

Yep. But I imagine they sell an awful lot of vw vans to RHD markets. It does not look like a hard fix but vw probably save a few dollars by not building two types of shifter. A multivan is not a cheap vehicle either. Let’s hope Land Rover does not don’t skimp.
