D2/D3, landrover have gone soft, uglyiest rear door ever
BMW 1M was an abomination before release
Defender having coils was end of the world.

    Etc etc.

D5, is it for everyone? nah, is there anything wrong with it, doesn't seem to be.

Built this the other day for fun, this is the cheapest possible D5 you can build in AU and man it looks the goods in black imo and looks relatively simple inside too.

    Build your DISCOVERY - Summary
Hey BR, what would be your intended use for a disco in that config? If you're thinking about offroad then forget it, it needs a dual range transfer box (and air suspension for clearance) and to get that you are forced to have the V6 variants ( and air susp.). That's plus 10K. If you're going to say just add a subframe drop/lift to the coiler then that's more than 10K anyway and moot because you wouldn't have the dual range box.

This is just LRA playing with people and forcing them into corners and making them spend money they shouldn't have to, to get the features they want. In the UK, 'S' spec Discovery comes with air suspension and dual range transfer case with the SD4 engine as standard. As you can see, it's easy to become a little cynical about LRAs approach to the Australian market. In fact they are probably the biggest obstacle to the success of the brand here in Oz as LR vehicles are very good.

LRA will really need to watch that with the defender, they need to allow a base vehicle to be configured with full off road capability without the need to bundle in other stuff (costs) that is not needed.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Yep and having to buy Terrain response on a 90k Sd6 SE is a bad joke.

Interesting, what are the features the D4 has, the D4 doesn't, first of heard of that 1

Typo in your comment...D3/4 gone soft. No one said the live axle full chassis D2 was soft. Same as D1 but with traction control. D2 door ugly...Same as D1...

    Cheers
Actually yes D1 to D2 was the same with all the ACE, SLS, TC,HDC, computer controlled engine, electronic everything, increased rear overhang etc etc, it was seen as an abomination to the utilitarian D1, now its one of the greats (if you can sort the 3 amigosWon’t be retro...Won’t be retro...) ugh same old same old. Car fans don't like change.
Same will happen with new defender, but the people that see history repeating itself will see through the usual "noise"

17 year old vehicle and no 3 Amigos. But the D2 is very close to the D1.

Anyway Defender is the only way LR can grab back street cred (well...off road cred!).

    Cheers

And better rear cargo shape for stuffing it full of touring kit too. But just the fact that you have to pay 30k more than a base D4 to compete with a base D4 off-road is insane.

    Cheers

That's such a shame, I would have loved to see a retro version...
