I always have a wry chuckle when I read journalistic reviews of Suzuki products. The Jimny is always highly praised for its off road prowess and its generous ground clearance. Its stable mate the Suzuki Grand Vitara is disparaged as a serious four wheel drive plus lacking serious ground clearance.

Interestingly the Jimny ground clearance is only 190 mm whilst the Grand Vitara has 200 mm. Many of the 4WD utes and wagons from from other manufacturers have the same 200 mm ground clearance as the GV. The Great Wall Steed 4WD utility only has 170 mm ground clearance.

I won't be queuing up for the new Jimny any time soon due to my experience of warranty support from Suzuki Aust. I've been waiting 5 years for one approved warranty replacement part whilst other parts are still not available 7 months after the warranty claims have been approved by Suzuki Aust.

What's the part and what's the reason they can't supply it? Has it meant the vehicle has been unusable or is a cosmetic part? Would be interested in the details.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

My Grand Vitara - 5 years - it is the radio/reverse camera. The camera wasn't working on delivery day. It took a while to get a new camera but the picture is that snowy it is unusable. The radio crackles and squarks and will emit maximum volume boom noises which scares the you know what out of you when driving. It then turns itself off but eventually turns itself back on again.

The driver seat base has collapsed - I sit on cushions - the replacement has been on back order for 7 months.

It needs a new fuel pump. Since purchase day it won't hold pressure and can be very hard to start.

Mrs Grumbles also has the same year Grand Vitara but the 2WD version - same story with her seat base, reversing camera and fuel pump plus her Blue Tooth doesn't work properly.

The dealer has mentioned that the seat bases and radio issues are known problems.

Both cars warranty expires this year on time - both have less than 50 thou on the clock and I doubt we will own them for much longer.
