At least it looks different from all the other modern LR products,which is great.
In fact,even for people that know a bit about them,looking from the front,they all look way too similar.
From a distance,there is no hope of telling them apart.
From the rear,well the D5 sticks out like dogs nuts because it looks so horrid,but most of the others are very similar.
i saw a Velar yesterday,without the seeing the badge,i would have thought it was a RRS or a RR.
Now i am sure the guy who pays $200K plus for his RR vogue,doesn't want it to look like something you can get for $100K.
Sure if one model is beside the other there is a bit of difference,but seeing them in traffic,when you often only get a quick glance at them, is a different story.
Anyway,just my 2 cents worth....[biggrin]
Generic, homogenous, unoriginal, conformist, uniform = a dull dull world, whether it’s Land Rover models that all look the same and pretend to be diverse, dualcab ute clones, plastic burgers or whatever.
The best design is rarely mainstream when it first appears. Icons don’t necessarily sell in large numbers. This has arguably been core to Defenders’ long-term success.
But for some reason the majority want sameness, not innovation. Profits over diversity.
Not me. Defender will need to be substantially different from all other current Land Rover models to make me take notice. But then if it’s generic it will probably sell well, which afterall seems to be the sole motivation of vehicle design these days.
Most probably won’t agree. But profit over diversity = Generic, homogenous, unoriginal, conformist, uniform = Land Rover today.
We can wait and see, yes. Well what else can we do?
Well we could just buy a generic dualcab of any brand, because it’s a safe bet that’s what the next Defender will be based on. And if it looks like a Pajero as highlighted above, it will Flop.
