If they had used the name "discovery" on the new defender then Im sure it would have been 100% positive

It's just as sad how many people are grasping at straws trying to find something bad to say. Some people just like to be angry.
There's a lot of "if it does/doesn't have X, then it doesn't even deserve to exist". Just like all cars LR will have to make compromises. Those compromises will lead to some people being upset, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't have the possibility of turning into an awesome car.
I'll reserve judgement until some people I trust have actually driven one, or I get a chance to drive it myself.
I have no doubt it will be a very capable and highly sought after vehicle... but it is NOT and will never BE a Defender as we know it.

It lwas never going to be as agricultural as the old defender, more a modern interpretation.
So far I like what I see.
I reckon there are lots out there who question if they should stick to a brand they have had/loved for years when new models come out, business changes or manufacturing goes elsewhere or in many cases the vehicles become so ridiculously expensive that buying one incurs a mortgage on your house or worse, when a working vehicle cops the luxury vehicle tax...
Sometimes it becomes a Bloody expensive hobby
