    The Defender wave

Will drivers of the new model be entitled to the "Land Rover wave"?

I have had TD5 Defenders and always thought the unspoken wave was such an awesome thing ..

Who knows? IMHO when it was the "Series LR wave" it was ok with sliding windows but as there is a chance the new Deffy won't have those or windey uppy ones my guess is probably not, as by the time the Electric widows are actuated far enough to get one's mitt out, the wavee will be long gone, not to mention the Old Bill everywhere could be on the lookout for drivers having bodily parts out side of the vehicle.

It will be difficult to recognise it as a Land Rover amongst all the other modern 4wd's.

Plus the people who buy them are unlikely to realise why someone in an old 'Jeep' is waving at them !

    Spot on Colin.

I also believe the "Land Rover Wave" started it's demise when the D1 arrived way back.

Who could have foreseen the post D1 Models as LRs? Every thing on them since looks bulgy & looks like they have grown, muscles whereas the Series were flat sided & had characteristic galvanised fittings & bumpers & looked as though they had balls.

Deffys have "similar" visual characteristics only & it will be a case of too many black switches on black panels & be a hurried case of, "****, which switch for the windows is it & which way do I turn it? OMFG!"

Sorry, am I meant to wave at people in Disco's ?

I've tried it and about 1 in 10 wave back and I'm not sure if they get why I'm waving. Now I keep my hand on the wheel until they wave at me which isn't very often !

I was a motorcyclist for years in the UK and there is a general camaraderie between fellow riders, well except moped riders, and you would always acknowledge a fellow rider.
Land Rover drivers (Series, County & Defender) have always acknowledged one another with a wave or a nod of the head. Probably because you never know when you're going to break down and need a fellow Land Rover owners help........only joking.

There is something about owning a Series/County/Defender that sets you apart from other drivers :-
    • Technical ability.
    • Eccentricity.
    • Masochism.
    • Enjoying the challenge of the unknown.
    • You're not someone who 'follows the crowd'.
    • You have a thick skin.

There are probably a few other differences........

Owning a current model Land Rover is more about :-

    • Image.

Sorry I can't think of anything else

I guess it depends on the person. I've continued on the Land Rover/Series/Defender wave after having moved on from TD5 then Puma Defenders, to now a D1 and D3. And yes, I do get weird looks when I wave to other Landies when I'm in the Disco's. But then again, both Disco's have front and rear barwork, spare wheel carriers, A/T tyres, rear ladders, AULRO tyre covers etc, so tend to stand out from stock vehicles a tad....

Driving through Chewton today I got a wave from a Defender driver, tool me by surprise as I'm driving a D1.
Maybe they liked that I was towing a water tank so the Disco was working.

    Anyway Hello back!
