    How would you spec the new Defender?

    Ok, it's getting close to Frankfurt time Sept 10 when the online builder and ordering books will open officially I'm going to have to start thinking seriously about how I'm going to spec mine.

    If you're going to get 1 what would be your preferred engine, colour, suspension, tyres, seats, factory off-road accessories.

    For me, if the straight 6 petrol is ecconomical enough and can wade as much as the diesel ill most likely go that way.
    Colour: dark grey of some kind.
    Air susp.
    Muddies.
    Leather and electric, 2+3 (3+3 is tempting)
    Factory tube bar+warn winch, sliders, ladder, expedition rack, snorkel, recovery points all around, bash plates if avail.
    Android auto
    Good stereo
    Everything else can be utilitarian as possible.

    Thoughts on my choices and what would your spec be without getting into diesel vs petrol war How would you spec the new Defender?How would you spec the new Defender?

    The engine is the hardest decision by far, I think. The appeal of a straight six petrol is obvious though.

    Things I would definitely order from LR:
    18” wheels with all-terrain tyres
    Air suspension
    As many lockers as they’ll sell me
    Winch
    Recovery points (are these not built in?)
    Mud flaps (if they aren’t the rigid kind that would snap off when rock crawling)
    Ladder to roof
    TPMS
    On-board air compressor
    Appliance white
    Driver’s seat memory (my wife’s nearly a foot shorter than me)
    Apple car play

    Things LR would be competing with 3rd parties for:
    Front bar
    Sliders
    RAI/snorkel
    Cargo barrier
    2nd battery (if they offer one, I think I saw a rumour)

    Things I already know will be third party rather than genuine:
    Roof rack

    I think that would be easy for me as I do a lot of towing a 2.5t offroad van.. so the 6 cyl diesel would be best for me I assume.

    I do like the idea of a frugal engine - I don't need to beat other cars at the lights - happy to plod along.. but yeah towing and torque go hand in hand.

    The 130 won't be available for a fair while anyway.. I'm interested to see where they put the extra length, I'm guessing over the rear but they could separate it to the middle and the rear.

    It's a moot point, since it will be priced out of my reach, but for the fun of it, here goes:

    90 or 110, but probably a 110;
    Ideally a straight six engine, probably petrol, since diesel is now seen as the fuel of evil;
    Air suspension;
    CTIS if it turns out to be available;
    As many locking diffs as they'll sell me;
    A manual if by some miracle it's offered and drives better than the dumpster fire that is the MT82;
    Keswick green or other, similar non-metallic if available (hopefully they remember that colours are a thing that exists), with a white roof (although I'd prefer limestone) and matching steels in the smallest size available;
    Six seats with cloth trim;
    As little other electronic gadgetry as possible, excepting a Meridian sound system if available and not bundled with a bunch of stuff I neither need nor want;
    Rubber mats throughout;
    Big flexible rubber mudflaps like the older Defenders and Series LRs; and
    I'll wait for the aftermarket for pretty much everything else.

    So what'll that be? About $120k? At least this new one is unlikely to need 101 things fixed straight off the bat due to poor design decisions and cost-cutting.

    110
    White
    D300 motor
    20" wheels
    5 seat
    X level trim
    Diff locks and snorkel if optional

    I'd leave Bar, barrier and rack to ARB
    Cheers
    Slunnie
