They really should let this bloke out more often.

Having owned and still owning some Toyotas over many many years, and having now had a D4 for 5 years, the big difference for me is that the Land Rover Discovery is made by enthusiasts. I reckon Land Rovers lack the Designed by Committee feel of Japanese vehicles. While I prefer a chassis - as I tow - the new Defender looks very impressive and it looks to be a vehicle for enthusiasts designed very much by enthusiasts.

    Hi All,

No real news - but a bit of an update on the Defender.

I spoke to a dealer today who said:

    * They aren't expecting dealer cars until "June/July" at the earliest.
    * He said that if I placed an order now - I should get the car "sometime soon after that"
    * The 90 isn't due into Australia until "the end of the year, possibly as late as the start of next year"
    * The US are going to get a 130 - but it isn't confirmed for Australia
    * He had a customer come in to place an order - because they had already seen/sat in a Defender in the USA

The salesman (a Victorian Land Rover dealer) was very pleasant to speak to - but was very light on details... He said: "Compared to the rest of world, the Australian market isn't that big...."

In other words - Land Rover don't see Australia as a priority compared to USA, UK and Asia...

    Cheers,
    GG.

I would not have expected anything more.....is there any reason to go to an Australian LR dealership this year , if you are not looking for a Discovery or Range Rover product?

    You won't get a Defender.

    In reply to #1195 Johntins...

ffs , the Evoque did all of this...was it ten years ago now?

The Discovery Sport has done it.

All the Range Rovers have done it.

Why is everyone lauding mediocre blase performances from the new Defender?

I have seen no new or dynamic or outstanding capability yet from this new vehicle.

Hence, why would I consider buying it?......for the saddlebags? ...thats different.

    But it's dual SIM!

If there is no mobile reception, you will have double confirmation!

Most 2020 vehicles are likely to report to a remote server. The data is gold!
