Awesome.
Lets just hope it has the reliability and build quality of a Lexus.

Watched the live reveal and I'm impressed, but it doesn't take much to impress me. Had a play around on the configurator (who came up with that word?) and like Inc I can but dream but mine are dreams of a pauper.

Maybe I'll win the lottery. I think I might prefer the 90.
There is no eraser on the pencil of life.
Now - 2008 D3 SE 4.0l V6
Was - 2000 D2 TD5 with much fruit.

But I bet the price you got was not in Aussie $$$$. I think once the Aussie specs are released - rather than what seems at the moment the UK specs on the Aussie LR site (if you ask to price a vehicle the Defender is not yet on the list on the Aussie LR site) all will be revealed.

Maybe I'm a little odd but I would not buy a vehicle just because it is called "Defender". I have to like it in order to ask the Mrs to part with money we don't yet have. Our Defenders become part of the family. We still have the 200 tdi that we bought in 1996. There are too many memories tied up in it to part with it, besides it still runs beautifully.
I do not own a mobile phone so all of the electronic extras on the new model just leave me cold. Once I found out that it would have an automatic gearbox I lost any curiosity I had. Are manual gearboxes not supposed to give better fuel consumption?
The out going model had character. You could go out and hang a wet teeshirt over the front wing and let it hang down over the side light and get excited. You can't do that with the new one. Why do you think explorers in remote places liked the old model? Far from home, far from humanity of the female kind. All they needed was a cloth and some water and well, err... Mr McGovern just doesn't get this. Yes Gerry, it's the little things that count. It might be capable and modern but there's more to life. The old vehicle had class whereas this one has generic written all over it.
Like I said, not for me but then again maybe I'm a little odd. Now where is that white tee shirt and bottle of water. There's a 110 Defender outside just oozing temptation....
I had a go at the Australian configurator this morning. Couple of thoughts ....
18" wheels only available with 4cyl engines.
The 6cyl engine must have bigger brakes.
Tow receiver is an option not seen in UK configurator so I reckon a 350kg ball weight will be forthcoming.
This is the same as my D4; handbook states 150kg but an extra Aus section covers the increase to 350kg
Winch not shown as an option but a winch accessory pack is there.
I think this means it will be something that comes later.
Hard to know if the Terrain Response 2 package is worth it compared to standard Terrain Response.
Rear ediff is a selectable option, so I guess that combined with standard TR will be the go.
The "bullbar" seems to be offered for Aus only and looks pathetic.
Not a show-stopper for me.
Some of the other accessories look cool but I suspect will be very expensive especially if UK prices are anything to go by.
Overall I'm confident that one will replace my D4 in a few years.

Scott
