Sure petrol will use more, that’s a given. How much more, who knows.

Looking at actual fuel usage for the diesel, that is going on D5 owners reports, that run the same engines,it’s not that frugal, actually similar to D3/4 TDV6.

And the new Defender is heavier and more likely to have accessories hanging off it.

Oh,and by the way,my first house cost $39 000.Maybe I am older than some of you guys.
    20L/100 v8 with 75L tank driven normally
    375ks

10L/100 td with 50L tank driven normally has tones more range
    500km

Tank size needs to be considered with economy, fact.

This is why we dont see 100L tanks on scooters in Bali.

The new diesel defender probably has more range with 1 "small" 85L tank than my RRC with 3 @ over 200L

For me, economy and application + weight are 100% considered on weather a specific tank size is suitable or sufficient for a 4wd.

Bigger tank, more weight, less payload.

Economic engine, smaller tank needed, less weight, more payload.

If you need more, fit a bigger tank(a bigger tank is avail for the D5), 99% of people will be fine with 850km range, that's syd to melb.

The Ford Expedition starts at US$53K for RWD only and outsells anything from LR by a factor of 3-4.

And when it is released, the 130 will be competing with the Chevrolet Surburban which costs even more and is even less capable off road. Also outsells everything from LR.

    Large SUVs

On-road the New Defender will match all of these for comfort and features, and off-road it will leave them all behind - and if comparing base spec to base spec - then the new Defender out specs them all. To take any of these large SUV’s off road you have to option them up.
Yes this is the US market the New Defender is chasing. Which surely should be the D5 Range Rover market. The Wrangler market was lost to Land Rover in the US decades ago. Why they don’t want it? Beats me!

Dont understand your point here, this is a demo car, used, notice how its not a glossy picture and umbrellas in the back.

Its a utilitarian interior, would you rather it more plush? Most people didnt want the defender to be luxury?

I saw there was some plush mats you could add, not on my list.

20k interior? Are you saying interior on a 20k car or an interior worth 20k? If you're saying that interior is available on a $20,000 4x4, please let us know.

The commercial defender is not a figment of our imagination, commercials are always stripped out, it was released at frankfurt along with the 110 and 90

Defender will be competing with the gwagon, wrangler and plenty of other trucks in the US.

100% the will be targeting higher end jeep buyers

The 90 especially will do extremely well against the wrangler.

It hasn’t been released in Australia yet. Whether it can compete with 70 series or any other utilitarian 4x4, all depends on the pricing. Pricing is inseparable from the discussion.

Not if it’s priced out of the market. But I’m sure the numbers dudes at JLR have got it right

I left this thread for one day, then couldn't help myself but come backThe New DefenderLR tragic

Referring to this vehcile in the same light as a wrangler, 70 series, g professional, or any other current commercially available 4wd is ridiculous. Someone who wants a wrangler ain't gonna look at a defender, besides the obvious price hurdle theres no live axles, ladder frame chassis or the potential to modify into a unstoppable rock crawler on 37s if they choose. The new defender other than the 90 without air suspension will be very expensive to modify unlike any current commercial vehcile, this is unattractive to many 4wd enthusiasts who like simplicity. These same enthusiasts might jump on board a new defender at a similar price point to current options but highly doubt will fork out substantially more then what they can purchase a current commercial vehicle for.
Then there's the fact that this thing isn't a proven vehicle, its new, it's fancy and has no pedigree.

Wrangler, 70 series, G, Hilux, Patrol, ranger, MUX, Everst, prado, 200, etc are all either on par for price or cheaper and they've all been around a long time and you can't deny that these vehicles have a strong perception amongst consumers for being offroad worthy family vehciles in some way, then try to convince these same people to pay more for a unproven vehcile built by a company who's perception is considered to be manufacturing yuppy "unreliable" vehciles.

LR created a new market alright, it's called the "Taking the pi$$" market.
