    500km

Tank size needs to be considered with economy, fact.

This is why we dont see 100L tanks on scooters in Bali.

The new diesel defender probably has more range with 1 "small" 85L tank than my RRC with 3 @ over 200L

For me, economy and application + weight are 100% considered on weather a specific tank size is suitable or sufficient for a 4wd.

Bigger tank, more weight, less payload.

Economic engine, smaller tank needed, less weight, more payload.

If you need more, fit a bigger tank(a bigger tank is avail for the D5), 99% of people will be fine with 850km range, that's syd to melb.
Mate you are completely missing the point, but don't want to go on and bore everyone.......

Also seems you run your vehicle tanks dead empty, most wouldn't.

And as i will say again,it isn't just about point to point travel.

Weights change bugger all if the same amount of extra fuel is loaded in the rear or on the roof of the vehicle.

Sure vehicle manufacturers weight specs will change slightly with a larger fuel tanks, but what is 50 Kg,(50 litres),as an example, plus the weight of a plastic tank, in the whole scheme of things?

    Just about negligible.

100% agree. A overland vehicle without decent fuel range is like a pub that only serves mid strength beer. No one wants mid strength beerThe New Defender ok maybe some people do but they're few and far betweenThe New DefenderThe New DefenderThe New Defender

Referring to this vehcile in the same light as a wrangler, 70 series, g professional, or any other current commercially available 4wd is ridiculous. Someone who wants a wrangler ain't gonna look at a defender, besides the obvious price hurdle theres no live axles, ladder frame chassis or the potential to modify into a unstoppable rock crawler on 37s if they choose. The new defender other than the 90 without air suspension will be very expensive to modify unlike any current commercial vehcile, this is unattractive to many 4wd enthusiasts who like simplicity. These same enthusiasts might jump on board a new defender at a similar price point to current options but highly doubt will fork out substantially more then what they can purchase a current commercial vehicle for.
Then there's the fact that this thing isn't a proven vehicle, its new, it's fancy and has no pedigree.

Wrangler, 70 series, G, Hilux, Patrol, ranger, MUX, Everst, prado, 200, etc are all either on par for price or cheaper and they've all been around a long time and you can't deny that these vehicles have a strong perception amongst consumers for being offroad worthy family vehciles in some way, then try to convince these same people to pay more for a unproven vehcile built by a company who's perception is considered to be manufacturing yuppy "unreliable" vehciles.

LR created a new market alright, it's called the "Taking the pi$$" market.
    Exactly 👍.

Dare I say it, JLR / New Defender = Chardonnay set?

Edit: ...Moët set. LOL ...primarily based on pricing / market positioning.

Been following this thread since it's inception, and it's becoming clear that those who have shelled out their hard earned on this new beast have been blinded, or maybe besotted, by the fact they have done so....

I'm not trying to imply that's a bad thing, if that's up your alley, totally get that, but for those that have done so, it's probably time to realise that the new deefer hasn't latched it's land rover tentacles on the 'purerists' yet.....??
(Is that how purerists is spelt?)

I hated the bloody thing at first, but it's now grown on me, and I quite like it. If I had the coin, I'd start sniffing....
However, I don't have that much coin to spare. So its still ye good ole' Td5 (yes, it's in a Disco 2a, not a DeeferThe New Defender), tech for me.

I remember when the D1 was first introduced. I remember going to look at one with the old man at ulr. I'd been brought up on series Landies and Classic R's, and so this new Discovery thing, was an absolute bloody hideous disgrace. The flippin tailgate didn't even open the right way!! WT??
I've now owned 3 of the buggers!!
Still got the original posters of when the first disco was released. The New Defender

    Anyway....

Seems to be a little 'hate' goin' on..
People Gunna love, people Gunna hate...
    Just sayin. (Me 2c worth)

Yes don’t get me wrong. I think the new Defender looks fantastic. But like most seem to agree, the price is inflated, way out of my reach AND I think the days of diesel / petrol vehicles are numbered. I’ll be very interested to see a PHEV diesel commercial 110 or 130 though.... As a future proofed proposition the price might be justified.

    Not so fast Bro.

Ozone hole over Antarctica is apparently the smallest since the 1980s.

    Read on dear reader..........https://www.eldersweather.com.au/news/record-small-ozone-hole-as-stratospheric-warming-reaches-the-surface/530389

Could be quite acceptable, post 2050 but I doubt I'll be kicking around to rejoice.

Whilst this isn’t the place to get into a climate change debate, I don’t think all vehicle manufacturers would be moving towards EV’s by 2025 if climate change were not a real thing. And I would certainly not base my research on an Elders weather report.

I wont be buying a new Defender until there is an EV version.

Not Elders, it is based on our illustrious Bureau of Met. Aust, info if you read it properly.

Obviously Elders pick it up & use it on a Website like a lot of other businesses.

I saw your point and responded to it with facts and my personal experience, have no idea what your saying about running tanks empty. When i need them full, they are full, when i need 1 tank full it is full.

New defender has great range with the tank its got stock, really have no idea why we are even talking about it.
