    SD6

Pardon me if this has been covered previously....

While at the dealers this morning to (unsuccessfully) pick up the D5 after repair, I had a look at the Defender and had a chat with the sales manager who said...

No more 4 cylinder diesel Defenders in the NY, only the P400 and SD6 variants from then on. He estimated an S model SD6 would be $115k.

My response was why would you pay $115k for an SD6 S Defender when you can get an SD6 SE D5 for less? He concurred but of course people have different needs and wants.

Seems they are trying to price themselves out of the market?

    So thats a base model,presume drive away,none of the many extras.And a 3yr,100K warranty,way below industry standard.

Makes that Paj on another thread fantastic value, although its old school, even an LC,and current Patrol, great value as well.

Even base models have some features such as CVDs which aren't available on any D5.

I would have expected the SD6 to be what people in Aus want, but without the MHEV.... that may help with the price that comes with it.
    Cheers

As Cadogan constantly reports ..the Aus market is small by global standards and JLR generally have not made a success of selling cars here. I suspect their global forward Defender sales to major markets are strong atm. So even less reason to service a niche market like Aus with all variants.

Of course if demand/supply dynamics change..then the offerings might change also. Remember the Evoque was also doomed by many to be a sales disaster...and crappy old Defers sell for stupid prices. Who would have thought that🙄

But there are a lot of people who wouldn't park a Pajero or Toyota in front of their house, let alone drive it. m

This would be a good thing for current D240 owners I would have thought. If a base model SD6 costs $115k then my FE should present far better value for money at resale.

Congrats to you blokes who have a L663 on the way. I look forward to your feedback on its on and off road capability. Both are equally important IMHO in a country of this size, where you travel vast distances on the black stuff before needing any off road capability. For on road capability I’m looking at drive ability (which covers a heap of factors like driver visibility, power/torque, incl when towing), noise levels, seat comfort, safety features (incl effective Bluetooth, audio system that doesn’t distract).

Although I’m years away from considering an upgrade.

Well I’m loving mine, though unfortunately stage 4 restrictions means I’m barely driving it though today I spent a bit more time in it within my 5k radius. It’s a massive upgrade for me though do it wouldn’t have to be too fabulous to feel that way. But that said the infotainment and interior is great and it just feels like I’m driving my couch around, the air suspension is awesome. I love riding around at full lift. Feels like I’m in a monster truck.
