    Power up

    Plucking up courage to sign on the dotted line for a new 90.

    and it appears that if I desire diesel I only have the option of the D250 now, have yet to ask the dealer about future availability of the D300, but I have noticed one or two secondhand D300 90's for sale.
    So one thing that I am curious about is,
    D250 & D300 are the same straight 6 cyl ingenium engine are they not, and I am presuming different levels of tune.
    hence
    can the D250 be retuned to achieve the outputs of the D300?

    I just took delivery of my D250 90 last week, having only driven the 110 version D300. Not sure if you can tune it up, but my initial impression is that the D250 is a rocket, esp in the 90.
    Ive done 1500km in the week and am absolutely blown away with its performance so far-fantastic vehicle

    The only new Deefer I have driven to date was a 90 P400, yep it weeent, but didn't try it on a section of road I normally drive, a spontaneous test drive, (he just threw the keys at me and said take it), is never really a good test I was to bamboozled by figuring out where everything was.

    I must decide if I am ever going to tow the likes of a camper trailer for extended periods, need to try and nail down SHMBO whether its the trailer way or Trayon way, although I have never had any concerns towing in any of my other landies, but that has only been occasionally, accept I have a load on the back and drive accordingly, well I quiet often have to check that the trailer is still there.

    Any idea of economy? 1500 is/was that 2 tanks?

    Thats on 1 3/4 tanks, averaging about 9lt/100 but it had 8km on it when I picked it up,so still very tight.. Id have no dramas towing with this motor and it will doing some heavy work coming up

    I notice...

    Def 90, D250 - 183kW / Def 110, D300 - 220kw (appear to be same engine?)

    Though I also notice...

    Def 90, D250 - 18" alloys option / Def 110, D300 - (nup)

    It'd almost be worth trading off some power to have the option of Def 110/ D250 and be able to fit some better off-road tyres.

    Sam (110 ordered with 20" alloys, and no desire to fork out for retrofit 18"s)

    That's one of the main reasons I went for the D250, the availability of 18in tyres. Yes its the same engine in a different tune.

    Thats the dilemma

    That appears to be the dilemma,
    You either change the wheel set from 20" back to 18" and brake hardware and risk voiding the warranty and perhaps insurance and perhaps the transport people.
    or you get the motor chipped and void the warranty and probably insurance.

    Casting around the various stuff on the net re the new Deefer tyres seem to be a bit of an Achilles heel.

    I don't think the 90 is available at the moment with the D300

    So I am thinking The D250 with 18" possibly black steels ( I think they are a factory option.) and see how the after market goes with engine tweaks, at least I know the engine can handle the xtra tune.
    I think that would be safer than mucking with brakes, keeps the spare parts std.

    Lucky to get one of the last D250 110s. Absolutely no problem with the power of it. Very happy.
    2022 Defender D250 S being set up for touring.
    '83 RRC 2 door 300tdi on club plates
    '82 RRC 2 door almost finished on club plates (will always be nearly finished!)
