113-372

G'day All,
After a tiring day at work (:(:o) I have managed to take a few more small steps in the direction of being able to start & move 113-372 at will or as needed.
I have been using a 5lt jerry can rigged for fuel, which is NFG if you need to shift the vehicle without having a disaster:eek:, so this afternoon, I cleaned off the old gasket material, grit blasted the tank sender unit, and painted it Gloss Black, I also made 2 gaskets, 1 for the fuel pick up, and the tank sender as in the picture

I will fit them tomorrow, next step will be to purchase 2 x fuel filler hoses and modify one for the LHS, then seal the units by fitting the external fuel fillers etc, anyway cheers Dennis

In the meantime, between procuring parts for the fuel system, I started cleaning and painting the exhaust system starting with the Intermediate pipe

I could see very quickly that working down on the knees wasn't going to be a good idea, so out came the saw horses

the angle grinder with cup wire brush made short work of the crud that was attached to everything, I had to grit blast where the wire cup brush couldn't get to, then hit it with Hi-Temp paint,

now to do the 7 x 5/16"UNF nuts n bolts that hold it all together, and I should be able to find enough exhaust flex mounts (as I'm a avid collector of same LOL:D), maybe finishing it all over the weekend, 16hr shift tomorrow, 10hr Saturday:(:( anyway cheers Dennis:angel:

I decided to give the exhaust system another coat of paint etc before fitting, and it is such a nice day, I decided to paint the tailgate for 113-372, it was etch primed after being surface prepped, rubbed back again

then some DBG mixed and I sprayed the 3 tilt tie down lugs first

my idea behind that is (as I'm not a spray painter:() so that it has a reasonable cover of paint so I don't overspray those areas and get any runs;), well thats the theory, turn it over and painted the inside first

it just doesn't look the right colour ATM, I'm hoping that it will dry a darker shade:(, anyway no matter, if it ain't right I'll do it again, anyway cheers Dennis:angel::(

G'day All,
Well after talking about fitting the exhaust system I decided to get on with it;), I needed to source new bolts to hold it all together, in particular with the S2A 3 x 1 1/2" x 5/16" UNF bolts n nuts/spring washers they hold the intermediate pipe to the engine pipe.
The muffler has a flange with 4 holes in it, for that you need 4 x 1" x 5/16"UNF bolts nuts/spring washers.
The exhaust mounts are flexible and made up of quite a few items, 2 flat flexible straps with 4 holes through them, 4 spacers (steel conduit) 4 x 1/4"UNF bolts nuts etc.
Anyway today I thought I had enough bits, but alas :( I was wrong, I was missing a strap to hold the intermediate pipe, and with all the steel merchants closed for the weekend (isn't it always the same!!:mad:).
A suitable piece of 3mm steel was found somewhere in the shed, I needed to make one of these

I marked it out and cut it with a disc so it finished at 3/4" wide

then it had to shaped like the other, so out with my lump of steel (I don't know what it ever was?? possibly a hyd/ram) anyway it's 1 5/8"OD and is near perfect for making exhaust clamps, I'm a meanie when it comes to the gas axe, as gas is very exxy, so I bent it cold

and after drilling etc it is now in place ready to do years of hard yakka under 113-372

the tailpipe extension is being currently held in place by some light wire, as I have to modify the only clamp I have, all the getting up n down has got to me :D, anyway cheers Dennis:angel:

Looking good as always, now I was thinking about the next project that you will be doing and I think we should all put in for a video camera and tripod so that you can film and post on youtube....I'll even set up a page for you, we can call it the "Master Dinty's Land Rover's".:D
Now if I lived in the same street as you I could hold the camera;)

I think the next project will be booked in as 'bessie' we have taken soooo long to rebuild her as we have too many other projects, we may as well FLY 'dinty' up to help us:D what do you recon:);)

I have managed a few hours playing with 113-372 today, I don't know about tomorrow though, as I have to make sure all other Land Rovers are in 1st class order for rego check Sunday.
Anyway today I fitted the Bonnet wear strip to the radiator supp/panel.
I bought mine from P.A.Blanchard in the UK some time ago, part No 300824 it has to be 35" in length (which it is) some non genuine ones are much shorter so that makes them useless, as you will see.
To start it is just a matter of working out the middle of the strap, mark with a pencil, I also put a 6" ruler across each of the 3/16" dia holes in the rad/supp/panel, making a light pencil mark to help me find the center of the panel, and that I could lightly tap the wear strip with a wad punch to mark it, then using a leather hole punch, punch/cut the hole out. (a Star Wheel type)
I started on the LHS by cutting the hole for the 1/4" UNF wing bolts

by fitting the large washer etc that held it in place while I went on to mark n cut the other holes one at a time, each time I cut a hole, I inserted a Bifurcated rivet, this helped me keep everything in place, until I was ready to set the rivets, one by one,

they are fiddley things and require a special tool which I don't have, but I made do by using multi-grips, bending the tabs over underneath

when all 10 rivets were set, I undid the 2 bolts at either end, out with the uphostlery glue, and applied the glue to the rad/supp/panel ends (over radius and down to the bolts) and also applied the glue to the wear strip, allow a few minutes for the glue to go sticky, then carefully press down, keeping the wear strip in the same straight line across the rad/supp/panel, when happy just put the bolts back in to help keep the wear strip insitu until the glue dries, and this is what it should look like,

ps I also made a temporary fuel line, so I can start n drive 113-372, instead of pushing it!!,,.:(:D
