    Some progress at last!!

    G'day All,
Today I have managed to get back into 113-372, it has been a long time between drinks, what with work+++ and shifting the deck chairs at No19, it was good to do something and see a little progress.
Most wouldn't even bother with what I have been playing with today, I stripped the throttle cross shaft assy, grit blasting bits along the way, here is the hand throttle crank etc

all parts etch primed and painted Gloss Black

'Charli' watching over me, and I must not forget the Lunette for Mrs H in the morning.
These are the nuts n bolts for the cross shaft brackets, DBG on the heads inside the cab and Gloss Black for the engine bay side

here it is assembled on the lhs, showing hand throttle connected

and on the rhs, it took me and swmbo about 15mins to do the top nut, which clamps the wiring loom into place under the throttle cross shaft

well thats been my day, off to the Expo in the morning in a P38RR, cheers Dennis

Do you have many dramas with the paint coming off the bolt/nuts when you tighten them up?

    G'day All,
Easo, to answer your question, yes occassionally, if I don't give the item time to dry properly, one reason why I tend to paint things and hang them for some time, but I have been out of my usual practice of doing something to it everyday, anyway lousey day here this morning, I'm slightly deaf but can hear the rain, we are off to Sydney to the Expo at 0745hrs, anyway cheers Dennis

    NOS Carburettor fitted

    G'day All,
I have been fiddling with lots of small parts for the throttle linkage setup, cleaning/grit/blasting/painting etc, most of the parts now fitted, I thought it was time I fitted the Solex, it is a NOS (ex-army) found in Lighting Ridge NSW of all places about 2004, I bought two of them at the time, here it is fitted to 113-372

I need to remake the vacuum line, I have purchased the fittings from Blanchards UK about 1 year ago, I do hope I can find them in the shed.
Maybe on Sunday after finishing night work, and watching the start of the Bathurst 1000, I could be tempted to pour petrol down the carburettor throat, and with a little spark maybe it might fire n run, anyway maybe LOL, anyway cheers Dennis

Ya know Dinty, I've been watching this thread for a while and you are showing up the rest of us in a very bad way.

    STOP IT!

Otherwise you will be challenging Chris K for the most fastidious Land Rover restoration award!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    G'day All,
I managed to get through the last 14 days, with 1 day off, worked the last 2 as night duty, so not much has been done, but I made the effort this morning starting around 1030hrs.
I took the rocker cover off, and was pleasantly surprised to see how clean the top end of the engine was

I slipped the old rubbers out of the covers that hold the rocker down, grit blasted them and painted them, seen here not painted

then the acorn nuts got the same treatment, shown before

    and after

the shielded oil pressure line + the 3 clips that locate it along the rocker cover were also grit blasted and painted, no pix of them at this stage but you get the idea, the rocker cover came up nice and tidy after being grit blasted, anyway now for an early tea (BBQ) shower n bed, ready for 0600hrs start tomorrow, only 4 shifts this week LOL anyway cheers Dennis
ps Diana, I'm not about taking any glory away from anyone, just doing my thing as always LOL,,.

    113-372 is alive!! well sorta,.

    G'day All,
After having been sick as, for the past couple of days (24hr viral thing), I stole a battery from another Land Rover, hooked it up, while checking for ignition and realising that I had no ignition, the fuse box had no fuses in it ( I'm putting my in-attentiveness down to being not 100%), anyway, after pouring some petrol down the throat of the Solex, I hit the starter button and it did start n run for a few seconds, hard to hear over my neighbours lawn mower though, the clip

maybe in a couple of days when I'm feeling better, I might have a another go at it, cheers Dennis

    113-372 'It runs'!!

    G'day All,
I managed to get over the short illness I suffered earlier this week and do something to get 113-372 running. I rigged a fuel supply and line primed the pump n line, found a leak at the fuel line as it enters the carburettor (no fibre washer), with that fixed, and having cleaned and tightened the earth straps (they were smoking the other day LOL), I pushed the starter button, to hear it burst into life and get covered in a spray of ??? liquid which scared the living s**t out of me, as I didn't know what it was, I can't smell anything much and I thought it could have been fuel, anyway it turned out to be H2O aka water LOL, I have no top radiator hose or thermostat so when the engine burst itno life water sprayed out of the thermostat housing, I disconnected the throttle linkages and backed of the idle screw a tad and this was the result

as the day progressed I managed to fit the twin fuel tanks, all other fuel line fittings have been cleaned and painted, just waiting to be fitted

the weather changed this afternoon, showers so I packed it all up, tomorrow I have to front up at a club run for rego day inspection etc anyway cheers Dennis
