    Guard Mounted Tools

    G'day everyone,

I have been trying to get hold of a set of tools for the front wings of my series 2A GS.

Any ideas on where to get them from, and how much they are worth.

I live in the Adelaide Hills.

Do they make reproductions or is there still military surplus around?

    Thanks for any replies,

    Will

    Hi Will

A little in demand those items, keep an eye on ebay as they come up from time to time and you can expect them to go up to several hundred dollars on the wrong day.

Swap meets, particularly military ones are a good source.

Finding any Army surplus is extremely rare.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I don't show my vehicle, so am just interested in practical tools which will fit in the holders. The tools I use were either inherited or bought from local hardware (bunnings etc...)

Axe (bunningsx2): I have a 3/4 axe which fits perfectly, I also have a full size axe which needed the handle trimmed about 2" and the head (blade) trimmed about 1/2" and resharpened.

Pick (head inherited, handle bunnings): Pick head fine, pick handle needed some slight trimming.

Shovel (inherited): Full size spade. Blade needed trimming by ~1" and reshaping. Handle needed shortening by ~3"

Paint them olive drab and only a rivet counter would pick the difference.

    Hi,

A cyclone "garden shovel" (I think that is what it is called) available Bunnings etc, has steel "D" handle is current ADF issue, same as cyclone axe, you need a number "5" pick head & suitable hardwood handle. the only difference is they will not have the broad arrow stamped into them.

Extremely rare to find real ones in army disposals anymore, I bought some pick heads for $6 and shovel for $14.50 very lucky but can't see it happening again!

    regards

    Guard mounted tools

Thanks everyone for your advice and help! Also, sorry for the delayed replies (major computer problems as usual).

Sounds like I might need to get creative and make a visit to bunnings to fill the gaps until one of the rare items turn up!

    Cheers,

    Will

I just went and bought a shovel and mattock from Bunnings
The shovel doesn't fit the holders at all
The mattock sort of does but it's not great
