RAEMUS Rover 1982-1984
Well, this is good to see - RAEMUS Rover lives on after all this time.
I was posted to Puckapunyal Workshop Company between 1982 and 1984. Peter Davey and Gus Ryan were the driver/navigator when I joined the crew. I lost a lot of skin and blood on that machine
. After Peter and Gus got posted out John (Robbo) Robertson, Eric (Fish) Herring and I took over. I think Ian Baker joined us about 5 months later (memory not what it used to be).
We raced Goondiwindi, Sea Lake, Portland and got a track certified on the outskirts of Seymore.
At that time we were running a 202/yellow terra head and 4 barrel Rochester. During a driver training weekend on the Puckapunyal Range (I was driving and Robbo navigating) we lost oil pressure and Robbo killed the engine. All we had in the wksp was a 179HP, so we used it and got RAEMUS ready for Portland dune race (and that is another story).
If anyone has photos from that time it would be good to see them. I've had a look at the pics here and only remember the older ones (I was posted to 1st Armoured Regiment in 1984 and lost touch with the crew.
Thanks for the memories
