Not one is the other S3 FFR ??
Hello All,
Does any one have a spare bottom tank Plug / bung and copper gasket that they would like to sell to me?
A vehicle that I am in the process of acquiring is missing the bung and the gasket and I would like to replace them.
Or does anyone know if the parts are still available from a supplier?
My Australian Army Parts book on Page 63 lists the items as:
Item Number 012 Description: Plug, Machine Thread - Fuel Drain
Item Number 013 Description: Gasket, Copper 0.0451 inches, Aperture Diameter by 0.675 Inch; OD by 0.075 Inch Thick. (R243958)
The third photographs show different views of what the genuine part number NRC62 looks like within some parts seller's lists. The genuine part does not look like the military part.
I am happy to pay for the part and postage
Kind Regards
Lionel
Not one is the other S3 FFR ??
Hello Paul,
Not spare Paul - until the day of reckoning I do not want to start stripping parts off vehicles. Well not until I know which ones stay and which ones are going to an ignominious fate.
Knowing my luck the vehicle I decide to strip will be the one that turns out to be the best of the bunch. Then I will have to put it back together again.
A bit like once you decide to throw away something - not long after you realise it was needed.
The day of reckoning has not yet dawned.
Kind Regards
Lionel
The S3 was always a parts car anyway. What about the old 2A (ex banana picker) ??
Hello Paul,
I checked the 2A this afternoon and it has a different style fitted on it. The really rusty tank on the chassis we brought back from a location near Kilkivan also has a different style - if it would ever come off. The rust has certainly gotten to it.
It is highly likely that I will use the tanks on some of the other vehicles to convert the remaining vehicle or two into dual tanks. So it would be handy to keep things all together in one piece.
I might as well use the time before the pick-up to source a replacement part if I can rather than borrow one off a vehicle that I will need later on.
The interesting thing is the civilian diesel we brought back from Sharon may be a replacement tank because the drain plug is not on the bottom of the tank at all. Instead it is mounted on the rear side of the tank that faces the back wheel. The plug is located right down low at the join between the side of the tank and the bottom of the tank.
Kind Regards
Lionel
Lionel,
A lot of aftermarket tanks seem to have the drain plug at the rear edge.
If you were offroading and dragging the tanks over rocks it might save you tearing the drain plug out ?
The plug you are after is the same as a Series I tank plug and looks similar to a Series axle drain plug (but I think it might be bigger). The transfer box drain plug is also similar, maybe check the part numbers and see if they are the same.
I guess you'll need to find someone with a tank that is beyond repair otherwise they will want to keep the drain plug.

Hello All,
The Easter Bunny left a nice surprise in my mailbox while I was away from home visiting some in-laws (B-I-L & S-I-L).
Thank you Mike K. from Victoria for sending me the plug and the copper gasket .
I am sure that my latest acquisition - once I see it in the flesh for the first time, will appreciate it.
Kind Regards
Lionel
Hello All,
For future reference the round brass petrol tank drain plug for the Army petrol tank is - 235592. Just type in Land Rover 235592 and it should come up with suppliers of this part.
The same plug fits on the bottom of the transfer case and the rear differential drain hole. Just like Colin (Gromit) suggested. The civilian parts for these same drain holes are hexagonal.
Kind Regards
Lionel
