    mil spec dizzy components

    Hi guys,
it's time to do the points and condensor in the series 3 2.6ltr, so I have gleaned that the army put bosch dizzy's in them.
does anyone know off the top of their heads if it is a point set from a old torana (which model?). Or another model specific points and condensor combo?
Even if I decided to go down the electronic non points set up I'd still need to know what dizzy it is so that I get something to fit correctly surely?
I'm also assuming that it is still running smooth on the original points from the army if the info is not readily available for getting new ones in the civilian relm.
    Cheers for your time,
    Lee

Not sure if I can help with the dizzy at the moment but I only just remembered about the valve clearances...

    Inlet 0.006" engine hot
Exhaust 0.010" engine hot or cold

Actually, I'll shoot out to the garage and have a look at the dizzy I have for mine - no idea what brand it is or if it is different to the mil spec ones.

    No, mines a Lucas unit.

If you have a few extra dollars spare, accuspark in the UK do a new full electronic version of the Lucas 25D6 that will bolt straight in for 70 quid plus delivery. Sorts out the points forever, will give you a better spark, and there will be no wear in the bushes.

I'll be ordering one soon. If you're paranoid about the electronics, a spare module can be bought for 6 quid to keep with your spares, but they are very reliable.

My FFR has a Bosch distributor.
Condensor is difficult to find, I found something similar and had to solder a lead to it. I remember ordering one in that looked correct in the FuelMiser catalogue but the mounting bracket was a mirror image of what I needed (and it cost about $40)
Rotor has a resistor in it that can give problems. Found a replacement, from memory it was listed as a VW part.
Four Wheel Drives in Melbourne had the points on the shelf.

I'll have a look in the box of parts I've accumulated and see if there are any part numbers.

    Here we go.....
Points HYL6871 from Four Wheel Drives, no manufacturers details.
Rotor BH77, FuelMiser from Autobarn/Repco/SuperCheap. Listed as Peugeot & VW
Condensor BC446, FuelMiser from Autobarn/Repco/SuperCheap. Listed as BMW & Volvo but needs modification to fit.

FuelMiser list part numbers for the 6-cyl civvie distributor (I have a copy of a old catalogue).

I looked at the BC446 condensor and from memory it's the moulded plastic bush that needs to be modified. The Condensor has a wire that passes through the bush which is deigned to fit in a recess in the distributor, everything else was correct except the shape of the bush (I was going to attack it with a file but never got round to it....)
AllFour list the condensor at $40 but out-of-stock. Also list points at $39.60. Four Wheel Drives were about 1/2 that price but it was a couple of years ago.

Ive just got delivery of my distributor and coil bundle from the UK, it looks like a quality unit so far.
the only issue I had with the new gear was that I recon they took the box off the shelf without checking if it had a dizzy cap on it, easy enough mistake to make (that's why I am not a storeman!). I emailed to find out what cap I can get to fit and they are sending one out at no cost.
I'm impressed by the speed of delivery (gets here quicker than our own internal mail) and the prompt responses to inquiries.
If anyone wants to check it out here is the link.

Electronic Ignition, Home of the Powerspark electronic ignition and electronic distributor

    for the 6 cylinder it's a 45D6 distributor.

Looks good Lee, let us know how it all goes once installed. I plan to run the same combo on Cam's Series 3.
