FFR - 30-146

Did some more investigation on the holes at the rear of the tub.

The holes seem to have fixed something on the outside of the vehicle. The mount on each side has the same hole configuration and is about 18" long by 4" high. The difference seems to be in the positioning of the brackets, on the RHS the forward lower bolt uses one of the holes for the antenna bracket, but straddles the antenna holes on the LHS.

Could this have been to mount cable reels on the side of the tub or something?

Any other ideas?

Perhaps something mounted there.....

No I thought about that, but when you look at the creases on the RHS body, you can see that something has pushed in to make indentations. Had it been something mounted on the inside, the body would be pushed out.

It would be good to get a hole template and compare the holes.

Your insight was 100% as usual. Today I borrowed one of the F1 mounts in question and it was an exact match with the holes in question.

Antennae mounts in bottom two images.

Now I know that my vehicle had F1 radios at some time during it's life but only for the rear pair of antennae. So I'm thinking that it may have kept its 548 and 77 sets as well. You can see evidence of it having 4 tables for most of it's service life so must have had something like that.

I think that is one nice looking rig!

Can I send these pics to my dad? He's an old PMG/Telecom hack and gets his jollies tinkering with radios and elctrickery. I'm using that as leverage to convince him to buy an FFR... ;)

Have been going through the vehicle sorting out all those things you need to do with a new acquisition.

• The new doortops now have some glass in them.
• The windscreen has a seal at each side.
• The front driveshaft has been refitted.
• The Range Rover LHS drag link end has been replaced with the correct SIII type and now have some right lock. (In fact with the English rims I have been able to back off the stops and so have more lock than usual and still don't rub the springs on full lock.
• Have re-sealed the drive plates and new "O" rings in the caps on both front wheels so should have stopped the oil leaks.
• Today have replaced one swivel seal so should have stopped that leak also, in-fact I think a lot of the leak was oil bypassing the back of the seal.

Now I can start fitting up the radio stuff, today I found out my RT-524 VRC has arrived in Windsor so will run out and pick it up! :) :burnrubber: :clap2: :clap2:

So everything is looking up for Aussie day. :) :) :) :)
