    Brush Bar in WA

Hi Guys, as per my avatar I have a military brush bar fitted to my 1959 Series 2. A cop pulled me over and told me that the bar is illegal in WA because it has the edge of the steel facing outwards and the bar needs to be rounded. Does anyone else have the same kind of bar and if so have you had any issues? Is there also some kind of exemption to the rule if I join a club or licence it in a particular manner, eg vintage etc. I really don't want to remove it as I consider it as much a part of the car as every other component. Thanks

    Mat

    Yes that.

Even if your landie is not military, the military brush bar was a factory option AFAIK.

Just say that it was factory fitment, was deemed legal at the time in WA, and vehicle legislation is not retrospective.

I have never had a problem with mine.

Did he give you a yellow sticker???

I have a very similar issue with the bull bar on the county(I used the line(Politely) that I had similar concerns and checked that it t complied with the ADRs applicable to the Vehicle and as it was made in 86 it was fine)

The following will be of use to you

    [ame]http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/licensing/lbu_vs_ci_112.pdf[/ame]

I haven't got the ADR numbers on hand but there is one that applies to vehicles made after 88 and another that applies to verhicles made after 98 I believe. Neither of which would apply to your vehicle

So yes the Cop was right the bar would be illegal on a modem 4wd but ADR rules don't get applied retrospecively and you couldn't have a shop make and fit you one that doesn't comply now. However yours is factory equipment and complied with ADRs at the time of construction.

Any other concerns give the guys on the doc a call I'd be curious to know their answer

Thanks, that is what I thought about it being retrospective, I was annoyed and I said I suppose you will ask me to fit seatbelts to it as well will you? He replied that "it came from the factory without seatbelts" so I didn't have to.

I then said well the bar came factory fitted for the military and it has been on for 50 years without issue and he just sighed at me. He then said that I need to convince him that I will look at the regs online or he will yellow sticker it.

I then questioned why he was threatening me with a sticker and is that normal practice, yeah I know I shouldn't answer back but I was *****ty. I was an impatient idiot and drove half on a verge at the lights to get to the give way sign ($100)

He didn't end up stickering my car thank God.

Another thing, this is the first time a motorcycle cop has pulled me over and they have cameras on each side of their helmet, very intimidating I can tell you.

Distortion, I can't access the link/pic from work so I'll check it out at home, thanks for your reply and everyone else for their contributions also.

They always like to pick on you if you break the road rules...

Print the regs above and carry them, along with a brochure showing the brush bars. I am sure someone has posted a brochure from the SIII era showing the brush bars, overdrive and FWH.
