Question Perentie 6x6 Front door waist seal

    Hi,

I am the new owner of a Perentie 6x6 1990, i have put it into service already after going through it fixing up things that were not working.

I have been stumped by something simple though, the front door waist seals were a bit cracked from UV so i went online and ordered new ones, which i was told they were superseded with the new part number ALR5980 and that they no longer make the original part number.

The new one fits but is not deep enough and you can see about 6mm of the door top where the old seal sat and when you look at the ends they are completely different shapes to the old one, does anyone now where i can buy the original one from or a different new one?

Are they defender waist seals or from a different model?

    Many thanks in advance!

As far as I am aware, the doors are the same as a 1990 110.
    It might be pre Defender.

You have the correct part number they give on ebay.

These are the old and new seals, I have a feeling what was in the sealed bag with that part number on it is not right?

You can see how the new one is not deep enough and the end profiles are completely different

The replacement ones are not the same as you have found out. I went through the same when I replaced them on the County a year or so ago. Works ok when the windows are up but the glass rattles when they are wound down.

    Improved design perhaps?

See if you can find the appropriate pinchweld. You might get lucky.
If you do, let us know.

    HI Brian,

Does your seal sit back like mine does in the 2nd photo, it fits against glass ok but leaves the ugly strip on the outside where the old one sat which is my problem. Would love to hear/see other people experiences/photos of how they have solved this?

    Cheers

Yes, it looked the same. I just cleaned up and repainted the bit that was exposed so you couldn't notice it. The older style seals are no longer available - bit of a bugger as they are a better seal.

Did you happen to do any digging into finding an alternate seal Brian? I'll be in the same situation when I do the 120.
Looks like a strip of closed cell foam below the lip might help with the rattling issue. Is that possible?
