My Dad, served 24 years with the Australian Army, including time with 3RAR in Malaya 57-59 & 1ATF HQ TFMA in Vietnam 70-71. By the time he was in Vietnam he was a 40 year old WO2.
I've seen a lot of photos, heard a lot of stories, and met some of his awesome friends like Keith Payne V.C.
My sister recently found this photo of W.O.2 D.A. Cook, circa 1970 at Nui Dat, hanging off a Series 2A, 114-497, with sidearm Browning Colt .45 and holding a giggle hat, that we both wore for many years, when I was a wee fella at Mudjimba & later on the farm.
This photo which I only saw for the first time a week ago, could be my all time favourite of him.
It also sums up the respect and love I have for my Father, a great man, who left his wife and family (twice), for the only 2 overseas trips of his life.
Always positive, with a laugh and always there for everyone and anyone.
The fact he's hanging off a Land Rover just makes my smile wider.
