    Removing bull bar

    Hey all,
Has anyone remove their bull bar before?
Doing a bit of work on my newly acquired Perentie GS cargo.
I'm a simple nurse with limited mechanical knowledge, looking to do some touch ups on the bulbar and winch. Several bolt appear impossible to get to. If I was to remove the bash plate protecting the underside of the engine, would this allow me to reach the inner bolts mounting the bull bar to the chassis without having to remove the PTO winch.

    Cheers,

    G'day Medic,

Welcome to the forum. I'm afraid you're in for a bad time (removing the bar, not being on the forum!).

You can remove the front two bolts for the steering guard, loosen the two rear ones and lower the guard. This will give you access to the inner bar bolts as you suggest, however access is still remarkably painful. I don't think just removing the bolts will allow the bar to leave with the fairlead still in place. To remove the fairlead you'll have to undo the bolts into the front of the winch. The bolts on the worm drive side of the winch are holding in oil, so be ready to catch a bit when they come out.

From there it's smooth sailing. Why does the bar have to come off?

Thanks for the heads up Dervish,

Like most Perenties around the 1987-89 era there is a fair bit of fading occurring in the paint work, particularly the green. I sourced the original colours in an enamel in Sydney.

So I had this idea of doing some touch up painting on my 110. Seemed like a great and in the main a fairly easy and sound idea.

Until you get to the front and realise you can't manoeuvrer the spray around the back of the bull bar.

So I'm currently looking for the path of least resistance, and am all ears.

    Cheers,
