    Hello All

This is my first post so please be patient, I see you are discussing army trailers specifically No 5 which I own can anyone advise of the wheel bearing size and the inner and outer hub seals. I see in Landbiz they have some on ebay but unsure if they are the correct one. I just need to strip the bearings down and repack

    Many thanks

G'day Capt Dan, the bearing is 359S for the cone and 354A for the cup, the seal part number is 50178. I think that is a landrover part number but here are the dimensions if you want to get these bits from a bearing shop - seal, 3.376" OD, 2 3/8 ID, 1/2" width. No outer seal, gasket only. Oh, and welcome to the AULRO forum, I think you will like it here!!!!!!

Resurrecting an old thread here, as I'm trying to source an exact match for the seal mentioned by Bearman, so I can have spares handy for the No 5 trailer I'm purchasing.

I've got the bearings on order, but the closest match I've come across to the quoted dimensions for the seal has a 3/8" wide seal rather than 1/2" (while OD and ID are a match). Will that be ok?

I've tried online to search out an answer for a couple of hours now but with no luck, so I'm looking forward to the advice of a sage or two on this forum.

    Thanks

Have you pulled the seal out? Often they have the part no. on the seal.

Take the seal to CBC https://www.conbear.com.au/ or similar. They'll find a match.

    Thanks Ron for the advice.

I'm not wishing to disturb the seal that's in place if I can help it.

Besides which it's CBC that I've been dealing with. The bearings arrive from Victoria tomorrow, together with said [not quite matching] seals which are the best that they can come up with.

PS Be assured that I've inquired elsewhere as well.

You don’t need to disturb the seal...

    Remove hub
Measure axle where the seal runs
Measure the OD of the seal, while it’s still in the hub

I wouldn’t be worried about the difference in seal width......

Whoops, didn’t read the whole thread.......

    OD and ID are mentioned....

Wide not a biggie....it’s only a light weight trailer.

No5 Army Trailer Wheel Bearings and Seals

    Righto, rang my bearing supplier....

The 1/2 wide seal is no longer available from his two main suppliers....however they still have stock in some branches....from memory 8 or 9 across a couple of stores soget in quick.

    Statewide Bearings

    3.3/8”x 2.3/8” x 1/2” is the seal size.

    $5.60ea
    $16 postage

He also said the 3/8 wide seal will do the job.

The part number listed above didn’t come up on his system....either way we always go by actual sizes and not so much the part number.

I reckon if CBC dig a little deeper they could also find stock of the 1/2” wide seal.....the 3/8” wide would come up first as its available.

Statewide Bearings in Adelaide quoted me $9.03 each plus GST and $16 postage to get them in from interstate.
I think I'll just stick with the 3/8" wide ones if they do the job as mentioned.

    Thanks for your help Weeds.
