    No.5 Trailer tail gate options

    Hi all,
I am converting my newly acquired No 5 trailer to my off road camper trailer,
I have made a frame that is 600mm above the top of the box for the roof top tent and awning.
Now the next project is the tailgate, as I want to mount a Drifta Kitchen.
    ? CAMPER TRAILER KITCHENS ? Drifta Camping & 4WD
Has anyone done a chop on the rear to make either a swinging or drop down tail gate?, as i am wondering where you cut the body.

Well since have had no reply's I ended up making the tail gate with no pictures or other information to go on, so here is the result.

Yes the trailer is now my off road camper,

Lots of work to make the tailgate, cut the inner guards to fit the kitchen, make the frame for the roof top tent, make the axle 120 mm wider to match the track of the defender and make wider wheel arches.
I am quite happy with the end result after spending many weekends cutting, grinding welding and painting.

    Hi All,
Just thought I would bump this thread as I am about to cut my No5 to create a tail gate. I have seen the KLR image of their No5 tail gate but was hoping to see if any other forum members who have done this mod could post images with a bit more detail before I get the grinder out. I am also going to weld on a mount for a spare on the draw bar too. Ultimately a boat rack for my tinnie that will also double as a mount for a roof top camper when I am not wanting to take the tinnie. Should be a bit of fun building it. I will post some images along the way but any ideas or images to reference from others who have done something similar would be much appreciated.
    Regards Warrick.

Are you going to put the spare wheel bracket above or below the drawbar?

    Hi Aaron,
My intention is to put the bracket above the draw bar but mount the spare vertically on to the front of the tub.

What vehicle do you intend to tow the trailer with?

All good then. When towing a No. 5 with a Discovery, the rear door only just clears the top of the drawbar and the front of the tub, so no room for a spare wheel in your suggested position.

Bit the bullet and plugged in the angle grinder. Sort of making it up as I go. Will post some more images as the project moves forward.
    Regards Warrick.
