Just get an unregistered vehicle permit.

Or put a "TRAFFIC" plate on it, driving a perentie you should be able to convince the officer you still think it is 1988. So you might just get away with it...

Ha, I remember doing that as a young(er) fella but these days any plate, or thing that looks like a rego plate and not authorised to be displayed (like 'traffic') can secure you a fine a tad over $2k.

Just get a UVP (Unreg. Vehicle Permit) and you'll be right.

Have a look at this thread Trailer. Berowra Waters Sydney to Melbourne
Maybe you could piggyback your unregistered trailer unto the registered 8 x 6 and do someone else a service at the same time.

    try this

i bought one from there last year . in vic you can register a trailer sight unseen by the vicroads people. its called a "light trailer pack " that requires you to fill in all details of the trailer, weight length height etc and take that paper work into the vicroads office. you collect the rego plate and take that with you to minto. you can check the info on vicroads website for all the relevant information and download the light trailer paperwork to fill out. you are required to make sure it has all rear lights per regulation which the trailer may or may not have. easiest way is to take a light board like they use on boat trailers. can be pre wired before you leave and cable tied to the trailer when you pick it up. worked for me. the main thing you will need from minto people will be the trailer chassis number thats stamped onto the drawbar of the trailer you buy. this number you can use for the vicroads paperwork as a chassis number as long as the trailer is manufactured before 1988 or there abouts. if the paper work requires a manufacturer name call it "home made ".. if i recalll vicroads dont recognise the actual manufactuer of these trailers in their system.

i think it cost around $80 for the rego papers and the plate.

the other thing that caught me out was the timing. i won the auction on a thursday i think and the minto people require you to pick up the trailer the following monday or tuesday. i didnt realise that so it was a quick drive up there and back. their storage fee was pretty high from memory. you might be able to organise something with them. perhaps call them before hand and discuss. you need the chassis number after you have won and wont get much time to do the vicroads paperwork and submit it before you need to pick up the trailer. it can be done though. good luck with it all

this information may have flaws in it as my memory faulters at times. just do your homework online and you should be all ok.

Absolutely ridiculous money, people are paying twice what they are worth, and some are even paying more again. Very few people will ever get their money back...
