    non rotating lunette ring

    Hi All,

Just purchased a haulmark PT1 trailer and there is a block on the shaft of the lunette ring stopping it from rotating. I want to tow this with a coulpe of different vehicles so would like to have the ring swivel and the pintle hook solid . I see reference to this as an army mod in my searches but that's about as much as I could find.
Im hand with a spanner and it looks like a roll pin or grub screw locating the top of the block onto the shaft, but its possible it could go right thru. Does anyone have a link to a how to on removing this so it can rotate , even if that rotation is limited , it just seems a bit to stiff for offroad as it is.

    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers bulletman

Well couldn't find much searching , and no replies as yet , so I decided to pull the tow ring off and have a look for myself.

    20200121_153002.jpg20200121_153020.jpg20200121_154612.jpg20200121_160137.jpg20200121_163733.jpg20200121_163831.jpg20200121_163842.jpg

So I undone the 4 bolts which hold it on ,lift the ring and the whole piece comes out thru the front. pics 1 & 2
Pic 3 shows the square block that stops the ring rotating.
Pic 4 , I just trimmed off the bottom corners of the block - came up 10mm & in 10mmboth sides and cut with a knife disc on the grinder
pics 5,6,7 - show it bolted back on with about 30 degrees rotation each way, and a view of the block looking down.

Took less than 1 hour to do .

    Hey Bulletman.

Just towed my PT1 home today from the auctions.
Having a good look over it and they were my thoughts exactly.
Given it was designed as an Army offroad trailer, I assumed the block helped stop roll over by limiting twist, but think it would operate much better with more movement.

What was the outcome as far as towing offroad?
    Any drawbacks/issues etc?

What was your solution to the wiring connection?

    Was registering it difficult?

I have done abut 500km offroad and it was faultless . I just wired in a large 7pin plug , there is a diagram on here on which wires are which, very simple. I just purchased a pintle hook that was rated off the net - ebay was the most choice. Drove to the MVR and they gave me temp rego for 24hrs until the vin was re-entered into the national data base and then they rang and said come pick up your plates..

I had to make a LED box to suit the D3 as it doesnt recognise the light properly but am very happy with it .

    Thumbs up

    Thanks mate.

When I get a chance, I'll pull it off and spin it in the lathe then.

Didn't know how particular QTrans would be with the wiring, or if a connection was available off the shelf, but if that's the case I'd be happy to wire the plug up.

    Cheers mate.

My understanding is that the ADF stopped the lunette from rotating so to reduce wear- they had a pintle hook that rotated. Apparently you shouldn't have a rotating hook and a rotating lunette as it can cause the trailer to roll. I popped mine on the lathe so the lunette now rotates 360. I have also rebuilt the break master with about $3.50 worth of Orings from a bearing shop - the $300 for a genuine rebuild kit is just a tiny bit of a rip off
