Mack 6x6 Hiab crane truck info needed

Anyone here had any experience driving/owning the above Mack truck, was wondering what sort of "all wheel drive system" they have, i.e. type of transfer case and how many speeds Low and High gearing, full time, part time.
Off road performance, on road performance, any info appreciated, Regards Frank.

    the R series mack

has the mack Maxidine 265/275 HP 6 pot 11l turbodiesel engine with 1450nm of torque (can be 1650nm as well as foot pound depending on which manual you want to read) with the Extended service interval filter and cooling system filter/treatment with an integeral dynotard, intercooling with a tip turbine pushing additional air through the air/air stage of intercooling.

its couple to a triple shaft 5 speed single reverse maxitorque constant mesh non syncronized gearpbox driving an remote 2 speed Transfer case with 2 output shafts and a user selectable locking device. The locking device is automatically engaged with low range selection

The front output is routed directly to the front diff while the rear enters into a power divider fitted to the intermediate axle which provides drive to the intermediate differential and then to the rear axle. The power divider is fitted with a locking device which is user operable and is engage with low range.

In normal driving conditions all wheels are driven until traction is sufficiently reduced on a single axle at which point the drive torque is reduced to all other axles until aproximatly equal to the tractive effort of the slipping axle.

When the power divider(s) are engaged all axles receive the same amount of drive torque regardless of the tractive effort available. Driving effort is only lost if traction is broken on at least one wheelset of each axle.

Suspension is leaf springs up the front and non load sharing air bags down the back with mechanically operated self leveling valves.

24v electrics fed by an interpolating alternator configured for 100A with 2 12v batteries in series
trailer connection is nominally a nato socket

The brakes are drum all round

    its air start

one air outlet (on the secondary brake tank) one air charge port (on the start tank) with a manually operated emergancy reserve tank. Its fitted with standard pnuematic brake controls

On road performance is limited to aproximately 95KPH with a range of approximately 450km

Offroad performance, well define off road.

you will be pleasantly amazed at how far you can get one to go if you know how.

as to the performance of the crane...

theres a couple of variants and positions of the crane, the front of tray crane is good if you get the palfinger one (and some may still be inside their 10yr inspection requriement) the Hiab is marginally more capable but can be a pig to operate.

watch for tray mounts especially if its been used to carry M113a1/a4's or aslavs. stay away from ex engineer macks as they were typically abused and will most likely have chassis/suspension issues.

alongside the landrover its the truck the ADF should never have gotten rid of..

I only ever drove the wreckers (never license for it)......when the recce-mech wasn't around.....

Longest drive was the oodnadatta track.....shared the drive towing 20T trailer.

They were a good work horse and seemed pretty reliable.
