Rover were not the only company to copy the Jeep. Toyota even used the name Jeep until Willys lawyered up. Looking round for other name possibilities, Landrover was already in use, and using that would only get them in more legal trouble, but in the sense of a ship, a cruiser is the same as a rover. Hence Landcruiser. (Remember that the traditional Rover car badge is a bow-on view of a Viking ship).
Suzuki also John, with their early Four Wheel Drive range.
The LJ stood for "Little Jeep" in the LJ20, LJ50, etc., plus they had a similar bar type grille.
