Vietnam War vehicle collection brings veterans together while fundraising for charity

Vietnam War vehicle collection brings veterans together while fundraising for charity - ABC News

Vinh Tran grew up as a survivor of the Vietnam War hearing stories from his father about the different military vehicles he drove in his work as a US transport officer.

With the seed sown for a lifelong love of military Jeeps, troop carriers and Land Rovers, Mr Tran has created an impressive collection of vehicles.

Interesting. Nice 101, the International Mark III brings back memories. The Series confuses me, as I never saw any Wide Light IIAs back then, but I never did a tour, I was a bit late for that.

    History:

There are some variations that occurred during Series IIa production. The early models featured headlights in the grille just like their Series I forebears. This had to be changed however because of new regulations in North America. For this market the headlights were moved to the front of the fenders/wings in 1968. These “Federal” models were transitional and the headlights were not recessed, giving these models the nickname “Bugeye”. These transitional cars were made until 1969, by which time the recessed headlights on the fenders/wings became the norm.

I thought it was a 3, but I wasn't sure. From 72 to 76, RAEME, I only ever saw the IIa with the narrow light config. That said, I never saw a 101 either. Saw a lot of those Inters though.

The 101 never went to Vietnam, in fact was not put into UK service until the last years of the Vietnam war and did not come into Aust service until 6 years after we left Vietnam. That 101 looks as if it is a UK import rather than an Aussie 101 (colour is wrong and no winch).

Nevertheless a great way to raise funds for his cause.

The 101 is actually flying a Union Jack, not an Australian flag - sort of suggesting that he knows that.

Yes I saw that, but all in the insignia and tac plates are Aussie. The narrative for the video says all the vehicles were imported from Vietnam so it is not clear what the original source of each of the vehicles may have been.
