Yes it's legal at low speed in this state (SA). As a rider I would say, just hold your line, don't make any unexpected movements and I won't hit your mirror! I only do it in pretty much stationary traffic at traffic lights etc, so I don't have to worry about any idiot who decides he is going to try and squeeze me.

As a Rider i am not comfortable with lane splitting
Yes i have done it and mainly for safety at Traffic lights but then again i avoid traffic as i ride for enjoyment not because i have to.
Majority of my rides involve nice hilly country roads on a fine day
Yes i ride to work occasionally and it is done so with respect to my safety and the surroundings

as long as we all ride to our comfort and ability levels, all is good. Individual choice. BTW lane splitting is the name for high speed manoeuvres and is illegal. Splitting hairs I know! I ride to work a lot, and use the technique to get pole position at the lights, for my safety, I can't be rear ended whilst sitting there, and I get clear road when I get away from the cars behind me. Less chance of being hit!

I think its times like that that the news guys should be making sure they get number plates as well as pictures of the phone users, and they should all be charged at full pelt.

I watched a guy in a Bentley the other day,, all over the road, couldn't hold speed. I get up beside him, and his on his phone FFS. What, no bluetooth in a $200K car??? Absolute ****ing ****** of the highest order.

A bit off topic, but there are quite a few paramedics on bikes here apparently it is a sort of trial..
It is the quickest way to get around by a country mile, due to the wonderfull traffic congestion we have.

They all carry defibs and other basic gear.

I got a better one, noticed some lady in the left lane on the M1,going about 70 to 80k's, with a book on the steering wheel, seemed to be reading it.....

FFS,she needs to lose her license for ever.

Our vans are up high, the things we see are unbelievable.

I have seen a commuter eating a bowl of cereal on her lap in peak hour traffic. Another time spotted a truckie on the New England with a newspaper spread on the steering wheel. A copper told me he once pulled over a late night motorist who was as drunk as three shearers, blew 0.28, and was smoking a cigarette and drinking a stubbie whilst driving. When asked to get out of the car he said "You will have to help me. I am too ****ed."
